Powertrip (63), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 17, 2008 Fantastic Palate. Exploding with a floral bouquet fresh from the flower shop. Accents of citrus fruit and roasty toffee hit midway then a finish of strong hops sing a swan song.......a small fade of over-bitterness is the only slight. An average look and nose hide a treasure for sure!
Enniskillen (1541), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Jul 21, 2008 Black with a thin off white head. Aroma is a light roastiness, caramel, light hops with chocolate, and some earthiness to it. Taste is a light hoppiness complimented by a roastiness and subtle chocolate. Pretty interesting stuff. bitbucket (1536), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bomber. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. I was hoping this would be a Rye IPA, but but it’s under-hopped for that. It sorta wanders into Schwartz-APA territory. There’s enough hop character to balance out the raisin and nutty chocolate undertones. jtw (909), farmington, Michigan, USA Mar 2, 2008 22 oz bottle brought back to MI from victoria, BC. definite reminders of stone’s 11th and founders black rye. roasted barley and hops abound; it pours with a beige head (surprisingly sticky) and has a huge cascade and green citrus presence - definitely dry-hopped. flavor is roasty and a bit sweeter, interesting blend of stout and IPA flavors. it doesn’t quite achieve the desirable characteristics of either, but at the same time it gets enough of both styles to make this an enjoyable drinkable brew. hapjydeuce (558), Carlsbad, California, USA Feb 27, 2008 Numerous bottles in Whistler, BC to cop a buzz in the winter weather. Dark brown with whispy head and lace. Smoky aroma with toast and caramel. Medium bitterness with a tiny floral character over the cocoa. Lots of carbonation finish the beer nicely. A good session beer that can be drank all night. I’m right there with the numbers on this one J.
