Pours dark amber with a moderate amount of head that lingers. Nice soft mouthfeel lots of hops and malt odor with flavour to match. A bit of coffee. Warm aftertaste. Impressed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle. Dark brown with a thick frothy beige head. Flavors are mint, pine needles, grapefruit, chocolate, roasted malts, caramel and resinous hops with herbal notes. Medium body, good carbonation, slick texture.

Bomber from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown with a decent ashen-tan head. Aroma: Very piney, dank and resinous, black pepper corns, dark-roasted malts, something of a petrol/diesel exhaust note...could be the peppery thing again, big and serious. Palate: Medium++ body, somewhat lively carbonation. Flav.: Like the nose, this is a big, serious, hop-driven beer, peppery, dark, dank, piney hops, reasonable dark-roasted malt backbone; dry with good bitterness and a long, resinous and very inky dark-roasted malt finish.

Quite the BIPA.

Smells nice, if not overly complex, mix of pine and dark malt. Completely black with a white foamy head. Tastes quite nice , well balanced. Upfront get dark malt, dark cocoa, coffee, finishes with pine, dark toffee. Fairly straightforward but well balanced black IPA. Alcohol well hidden. Medium bodied and average carbonation.

650 mL bottle. Almost jet black pour, surprisingly tall off-white head, great retention. mostly a roasted malt aroma, some muted hoppy notes. Taste is mildly bitter, again roast malt mingled nicely with some pine. Fairly full bodied.

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a very dark brown with average-sized light tan head with go of retention. Aroma is quite roasty with green, lightly citric hops. Flavour has lots of dark, roasty malt with solid, if understated, earthy, green hoppiness. Alcohol pretty subtle. Solid.

650 mLbottle. Pours with a huge head, even when pouring gently. Kinda annoying and unnecessary. Nothing off, though. Nice balance. Doesn’t seem like an imperial, other than the body. Good, though.

codfishh (121) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 20, 2015
Pours jet black with a creamy tan head, lots of lacing around the glass. Hop aroma is subdued some piney resiny aroma, strong black coffee aroma. Flavor is very toasty, lots of strong coffee, black licorice, burnt malt. Very bitter with out a lot of hop flavor, a little vegetal. Medium body medium mouth feel. Bitterness coats the palette and lingers.

UXO (599) - CANADA - MAR 19, 2015
Pours clear amber-brown with two fat fingers of loose beige head, excellent retention and lacing. (4/5) Nose is dark roasty malt cocoa and coffee, mild pine, citrus. (7/10) Taste is mild sweet, mild to moderate bitter. (7/10) Medium bodied, moderate to low carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (4/5) Surprisingly smooth and mild for a high ABV imperial black. (And, seriously, is that even a thing?) A seriously dangerous bad boy mix that will lay you out while you’re still trying to think of clever things to say about it. Hypothetically. “Oh, Phillips - I wish I knew how to quit you." (15/20)

Soft roasty nose, soft pine resin hops with some leafy, fresh cut grass. Soft carb, and a velvety mouth feel. This beer is subtle, and smooth. It had an overall softness about it. All the components of a good black ipa are there, but it lacks bite. The alcohol is very well hidden, and the bitterness is about medium, and not over the top. Subtle cocoa notes in the finish with a nice routines and some pine to round it out.
