Pours dark amber with a moderate amount of head that lingers. Nice soft mouthfeel lots of hops and malt odor with flavour to match. A bit of coffee. Warm aftertaste. Impressed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is grass, light earthiness, pale smoky and roasty malts. Some sweet caramel notes. Taste is some dark roasty malts which are consumed by a fairly potent hop profile. The hops are earthy, have notes of clove, lemon grass and citrus. The bitter tang does linger after finish. The appearance is a black body with a beige head that retains fairly well.

Dark brown, fairly big toasty/roasty stuff with leafy green hops. Sweet syrupy chocolate with a rich roasty and intensely hopped character, with an intense lingering finish. Gets a bit harsh as it goes

Bomber. Virtually hueless darkest brown, solid tan foam settles and mostly lasts. Sprucey floral dark roast aroma. Robust singed dark roasted malt, floral evergreen hop taste, some citrus. Softer than average carbonation, medium-full bodied, more aggressively hopped. Finish is long, bitter and burnt. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver

Dark mahogany color, nice light on the edges, beige creamy head. The aroma has a lo of resiny hops, then the roasted malt. Good strength, yet the mouthfeel is lean; strong flavor of roasted malts, without falling in the ash trap, but with more liquorice than expected. Very strong bitterness; in the final, some coffee character.
Good beer.

Pours black with a frothy head. Aroma is surprisingly tropical fruity, maybe some chocolate. Taste is wonderfully hoppy, citrus peel coffee chocolate. Phillips consistently makes amazing IPA's. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow. Awesome brew. Aroma is similar to their kalidescope offering with big tropical citrusy notes with underlying roastsness. Taste is somewhere between a IPA and a stout capturing the best of both. Awesome.

Pours dark brown, nice lacing. Strong beer. Smells of bread, pine, strange metallic smell. Taste is molasses mixed with hop grapefruit. Unique dark beer. Almost taste like a barrel aged beer without the whiskey taste. Not bad for a strong dark beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rating #853 - December 23, 2013 - Beer 23 in the Craft BeerAdvent Calendar. I’m going to have cabin fever this winter if I can’t track down another one of these.Pours a enrapturing black, with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is a violent clash between toasted malt, and grassy floral hops. Taste is extremely hoppy, resinous grassy floral and noble hop notes tempered with a pleasant coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar sweetness of the toasted malt which is the dominant player. Fantastic imperial IBA.

Bottle - Roast malts and pine hops. Jet black with a bubble big brown head. Roasted malts with a hint of the hops and finishes with a bitter roast. With a very hop forward nose I though the balance would be off, but the taste is dominated by roast which I prefer. Well done for my taste.
