Poured from the bomber, medium cloudy dark copper. Good head, better lacing. Smells of citrus, malt, sweet caramel. Taste is malty, cookie dough. Finish is medium bitter with some citrus. Good carbonation. A nice complex and balanced malt red ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear dark copper colour with a large creamy off white head that sticks nicely up the glass. Aroma is citrus, floral, some malty sweetness, and mild caramel and bready. Taste is made up of grapefruit, resin, roasted malts, and caramel. Medium-high bitterness that’s really quite nice.

Pours a clear dark amber color with a nice frothy off white head. Aroma of bread malts, caramel, grassy hops and light floral esters. Taste is bread malts, grass, caramel and a big punch of bitterness on the finish bit not overwhelming. Balances extremely well with big malt profile and tames out the high abv in this one. Excellent imperial red.

Pretty interesting. Hoppy with nice head, carpet lacing. Orangish red. Smells hoppy at beginning, some barrel in aftertaste. A little bitter with some malt in finish as well. Average carbonation. On tap at brewery.

On tap at Alibi Room in Gastown. A reddish brown ale. Very well malted, with some hops following slightly behind. Not bad.

Bottle - Bready malts. Dark amber, clear with a decent off white head. Sweet, bready and alcohol. Nice rich body. Not bad and great value.

The pour: a rusty brown or bronze in colour with a small off white head. The aroma: a bit mellow but certainly quite malty and sweet, some notes of floral hops, and grapefruit and citrus rind is obvious. A bit of woodiness or earthiness quickly follows. The taste: full bodied with a thick mouth feel, starts with a bit of sweetness but quickly follows with a long lasting bitterness. The verdict: a nice beer but lacks anything making it a special or unique experience.

650mL bottle to pint glass Aroma of pine, black currents, and a bit of sweetness. It pours a clear deep red with a nice 1cm head with some lacing. Flavours are of malty sweetness up front with a typical Phillips hoppy bitterness at the end.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2014 [2012] Minimal aroma heralds mild taste. Pours copper-coloured with minimal white head. Medium-bodied and carbonated with a soft finish. Pretty basic stuff, despite the promise of a cool logo and higher than normal alcohol content. Not much to celebrate or critique in this decent, somewhat pedestrian offering. 2014 update: What was I thinking/drinking? Just had it again in a growler direct from the brewery and this time it’s the bomb! Stronger, bigger, sharper than I recall. Tart yeastiness offsets roasty malts, high hops and significant alcohol presence. A bold and interesting beer, in spite of what I said the first time. (Proves I’m not the most reliable reviewer).

Bottle. Frothy head on copper. Aroma is quiet for a big beer with touches of grain, hops and light caramel. Flavour is like the scent. Seems a bit quit fir Imperial. A bit of tinniness and linger woody hops and caramel.
