Another pull from the BC variety six pack sampler at the LCBO. Mixed feeling on this one before I even pop the top off. I like the stuff ive had from Phillip’s (& really dig their label design) but I find pale lagers generally hurt my feelings & diminish my soul. But look here: this is a really cool version of the style. I could use the word "crisp" to describe it but that word seems to be in every review here (and sometimes twice!) but it is crisp (oops, that’s twice) & refreshing & still has an edge. A diamond in the rough. Recommended.

Clear golden pour, small, but very lively white head. Pleasant pale malts in the nose, with some very subtle, but present dried, grassy hops. A lovely crisp, lovely mouth feel. A clean and crisp finish. Light bitterness, some light hopping, slight malt sweetness, some grasses, and even a touch of lemon zest. For what it is, its quite good. Probably the best pale lager ive ever had.

Bottle from BC craft beer sampler pack at the LCBO. Clear and bright yellow-gold with an abundant white head. Clean aroma of bread crust, light caramel, bit of boiled corn, light grassy hops. Simple and well-balanced flavour of lightly sweet and toasty malt & grassy not-too-bitter hops. A straight-up, well made pale lager. Not my usual choice of beer, but I’ve gotta respect it for being a good example of the style.

probstblueribbon (2944) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 3, 2014
341 ml bottle in a mixed pack from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear pale straw with a fluffy white head. Aroma: Bright, lemony hops, faint light malt graininess, a little green, grassy, peppery, a touch resinous, clean. Palate: Medium-ish body, fairly energetic carbonation, creamy. Flav.: Light malt graininess, citrus, a little grassy and peppery, a bit of tropical fruit (pineapple, mango), resin; dry with nice bitterness and a clean, hoppy finish.

Coo loo coo coo, coo coo coo coo.

Draught at the brewery
Hazy blond color with compact head. The aroma is delicate, hoppy and flowery. Dry and lean mouthfeel; flavor of straws, correctly bitter.
Simple summer beer. Not bad.

Lagerboy (1260) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 12, 2014
341 ml bottle. Mostly clear pale straw yellow, lasting smaller white foam. Bready lager malt aroma, some hay. Not too bland pale lager malt taste, faint citrus, light spicier herbal hop. Average carbonation, light-medium bodied. Not that strange of a brew, but better crafted than most Canadian industrial swill. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)

reebtogi (4244) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 2, 2014
341ml bottle pours a hazy golden yellow color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is grassy with some grains. Taste is a grassy and spicy hop bitterness with a grainy malty sweetness that finishes fairly clean. A typical pale lager with a little extra bite to it.

Rating #795 - Dec 2, 2013 -Beer 2 in the Phillips Snowcase. Bottle. 5%.Unimpressive pale yellow pour with a weak white foam that fades quickly. Aroma is corn, grasses, sweet malts. Taste is bland, corn and grains with a lingering sweetness into a smooth, and rather refreshing finish. Something here is appealing... pretty refreshing hoppy grassy bite. All in all, a light crisp lager that is super crushable.

Light, clear yellow pour with a touch of white head. Aroma is cracker malts, light lemon. Crisp, clean. Only a slight bit of sweetness in the body. Not too bad.
