3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 WheatKing (703) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 4, 2013
I thought this would just be a novelty, Phillips "giving back to the community". But the beer stands well on its own and would be an excellent addition to their lineup. Soapy tangerine and lots of resin in there... I had two IPAs after this and this was much hoppier... definitely not a regular "amber"!

Bottle. Light amber pour, hoppy nose leaning more toward conifer traits, some citrus. Same on the palate-- hops steal the show, with caramel malt in support. The first Phillips brew in a long time to not have that annoying powdery quality that I cannot stand. Enjoyed this one.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 thb (609) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 31, 2012
Attractive copper/amber with nice foam which leaves a lingering film. Aroma led by hops: spruce first, with citrus backup. Caramel/biscuit malt. General fruitiness. Balance is quite good I thought. Refreshing.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ferris (495) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 18, 2012
Bottle - Grapefruit hops and a sweetness from the malts. Beautiful clear amber with a brown thick head. The hoppy pine/citrus and bitterness hits pretty hard in this beer, overwhelming everything but a sweetness coming in at the end. A decent beer, but a little to hop forward for this style.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 andrewturba (456) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 11, 2012
Pours a clear dark amber with big off white head nicely lacing the glass. Aromas of pine, citrus, grassy hops, light sweetness. Flavours of grapefruit, pine, high bitterness for a pale ale(but tasty) some sweet malty notes.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Reimer96 (594) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 11, 2012
Pours a clear reddish copper with a big off white frothy head that that leaves nice sticky lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine, grass and a faint caramel sweetness. Taste is pine and grass up front with a hint of malts then all bitterness on the finish. It’s a nice very hoppy APA however the balance isn’t there to make this great. Needs more of a malt profile or less hops to get a better balance.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 18, 2012
Single bottle purchased from co-op wine & spirits in Calgary, AB on 11/14/2012. Colour: Certainly some amber with generious white head that takes its time in evaporating. Nose: Plenty of caramel among slightly floraled hops, a bit of malt vinegar, mid-summer freshly cut grass. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium bitter, medium-light sour. More bitter than expected, which was a nice addition. Again caramel forward but with light sweetness attached. Some soapy malt mid-palate and into the finish. Lingering hop bitterness with a burnt note runs late. Decent.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mcberko (4065) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 12, 2012
650mL bottle, pours a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma of dry caramel malts, some citrusy hops and some pleasant woody qualities to it - very nice nose for an amber. Flavour of woody notes, some metallic quality sort of like bitter metallic hops, and a toasted malt backbone. Finishes on the toasted malt and woody notes, with a slight hop note. Decent amber.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 patricks110 (1215) - Alberta, CANADA - NOV 5, 2012
Pretty good brew. The nose is floral, lightly spiced with a citrus emphasis. A bit of a sweet toasty and light caramel malt base with a moderately citric and bitter finish. Nice hop blend with a sizable hop bitterness and mild astringency. Overall a really good little IPA!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (3267) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 5, 2012
650ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a 2 finger off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine and grapefruit with hints of caramel. Taste is a bold pine and grapefruit hop bitterness with an underlying caramel malty sweetness. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. A nicely done amber ale with a lot of hoppiness, which is very full flavored and highly recommended.
