CapFlu (3292), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Feb 23, 2008 (650ml bottle) Purchased at The Strath for $5.95. Pours a clear, highly carbonated deep orange body. Thin white dissipated head with a mild apple nose. Flavour is tonic with watery apple taste. Thin, floral and poor.
DuffMan (1939), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 24, 2008 Hazy dirty golden, rapidly receding fizzy head. Sour apple aroma. Sour apples, musty yeast, thin malt barely detectable. This isn’t working for me... tiggmtl (4181), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 24, 2008 Plenty of green apples in the nose. Brilliantly clear honey-gold body is topped bya fizzy white head that recedes rapidly (and noisily) to ring. Apples and brown sugar are apparent in the very dry flavour. Some malt notable in the finish. Very dry in character with extremely prickly carbonation and somewhat astringent texture. I think it’s definitely over-attenuated and a bit more sweetness and lower carbonation might help reach the sweet fruit beer/cider segment of the market. Then again, market the champagne-like effervescence and this could be a winner... Forbidden Fruit? Haven’t I seen that name somewhere before? Next year, this should likely be re-named blue-snake apple ale... Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Feb-08). Enniskillen (1554), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Feb 23, 2008 Courtesy of CapFlu. Gold with a thin white head. Aroma is cider-esque with honey, champange yeast, and red apples. Taste is lightly malty, very light floral, apples in the background. Not really a lot of depth. Trev (493), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Feb 21, 2008 Poured a clear yellow with a light bubbly white head. Aroma was apple cider with an underlying dusty malt aroma.
Flavour was tangy apple initially, but got muddled from there. As the brew warmed maltier flavours seemed to compete until in finally tasted like a tainted bottle of blue buck by the end. Started well but fell short of the mark for me.
