Retorp (2155), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Dkachur. The aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and ample roasted malt notes. The body she is a full black and holds a very thin tan head, that lasts much longer than I thought it could. Mild medicinal aspirin notes, but those fade quickly to render chocolate, dark fruit, coffee and a mildly dry fruit and toasted malt finish. Not great, but one of the better dark beers of a night full of dark brews.
Ughsmash (3082), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bomber. Poured quite viscous deep brown (almost black) with a short-lived cap of rich brown head. The aroma was quite delightful.. well-roasted dark chocolate, licorice, and molasses upfront with undercurrents of brown sugar.. all malts in the nose, and it came across well. The flavor had an odd, lighter, somewhat strange sourness throughout that wasn’t entirely a bad thing (struck me as a bit of smoked woody character).. roasted darker chocolate and licorice at the core.. light coffee bitterness around and some grainy ground character on the finish. Medium-bodied and lighter on the palate than it looked.. slick feel through the mouth with low carbonation.. masked the alcohol well.. bit sweeter and cake-like on the finish. Good stuff! Ibrew2or3 (1756), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 2, 2008 Courtesy of Degarth. Pours black with thin mocha head. The aroma is mild with roastiness rolling into burnt malts pushing into an ashy region. The taste is smooth and blended and begins almost mildly as it heads toward midway for bolder brasher notes. It starts mildly roasty and becoming rich chocolate and then bold burnt malts. The flavor grows brighter into the finish. This beer has a light sensation for the style but very very tasty. DuffMan (1962), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 21, 2008 This was compared with Moylan’s and Bear Republic in the same session. Of the three, it had the most roast and the shortest dryest finish. While still an excellent beer, it did not have the complexity found in the other two. robinvboyer (1055), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2008 thanks to mgermani for the bottle!
pitch black, oil, thick pour, small tan head. Aroma roasted malt, dark fruit, burnt chocolate, and some hops. Flavour is smoky, and very very roasty, some burnt soy, and burnt chocolate, decent bittering in the finish. A good impy stout, not amazing, but good.
