650mL bottle, pours clear amber with a quickly-dissipating beige head. Bready malts / cereal and caramel notes on the nose. Flavour reveals more of the bread / cereal found on the nose, with little complexity or depth. Not such a success, I’d say.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 Bottle. Medium amber brown pour, surging white head that falls to nothing rather quick. Caramel, bready syrupy sweet aroma with nutty notes. Flat, slightly thin, syrupy body on it. Bread pudding sweetness and toast on the flavor, not a whole lot else. Hides the alcohol pretty well.

Bottle courtesy of Gravelle. Deep hazed amber, with a frothy eggshell cap, leaves pretty lace. Toasty nose of lots of rye bread, a hint of molasses, burnt sugars, caramel, some spicy hops. Tastes of semi-sweet bready malts, molasses, bread crust, some plum, with bittering hops. Quite alcoholic on the finish, with a full body. Good. Thanks Jon!

Full bodied like your girlfriend. The toasted biscuit camos the 8.5% of alcohol streaming through this liquid bread. Rich aromas of dough and caramel. Great doppelbock! .

22oz bottle from Brewery Creek. Pours a dark copper with thin ring of head in the glass. Aroma is slightly sweet malt. Taste is creamy with notes of vanilla and cola. Interesting. Finish is slightly smoky with a slight hop bite lingering in the finish. A decent Canadian attempt at a doppelbock but certainly not as interesting as some of the German offerings I’ve had.

A decent brown-sugary, toasted crust profile that I love in keeping with this style, just a little thin in the malt department, underscored by lively carbonation early on. Still a nice beer though.

Pours with a decent head and has a deep brown color. Smell is metallic and earthy. Doesn’t taste much like a dopplebock to me. Is very thin and lacking in substance. Palate is a little slimy. There is nothing interesting here and in fact there are some sour off-notes. The thing that impresses me the most is that the alcohol is undetectable.

Bottle. Red orange, low off-white head.
Light caramelized nut aroma. Flavor is unfortunately not particulary clean - dead yeast, minerallic, rubberlike and carbonized
notes. Slightly chewy but ultimately too light body for a Doppelbock, light sparkly mouthfeel. Burned retronasal.
