MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 3, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A sheet of foam spreads atop the near-transparent honey gold.
-A floral, fruity hop perfume soars above the wooden dryness.
-Resinous hops benefit from some mandarine fruitiness.
-The well-rounded body and rather comfortable carbonation produce a very drinkable mouthfeel.
What if you dig deeper?
-Lingering earthy hop resins pleasure the back of the tongue.
-There is enough caramel and bready maltiness to support both the nose and flavor profile.
-This is an efficient, classic PNW IPA, worthy of a forest hike.
Bottle; no date. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Nov 10, 2006 Dark gold in colour with somewhat low carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, light pine, and a hint of black pepper. Heavy in the mouth with some bready overtones. Loads of assertive pine resin flavor. The citrus element returns mid-sip but fades again, leaving the pine, some chunky bitterness, and some leafy green hop flavor. Not very balanced, but I don’t mind a hop-ladden beer like this. Thanks Oakes! tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 4, 2006 Caramel malt sweetness rounds out the citrusy grapefruit-lime and pine hops that dominate the aroma. Hazy deeep golden-copper body is topped by a low white head that recedes rapidly to a large bubbled partial cover. Biscuity malt character is quickly joined by very strong grapefruit citrus hop flavour and even stronger bitterness. Malt body is overwhelmed somewhat by the hops leaving the body feeling a bit thin. Strong carbonation is quite sharp and prickly. Tulip glass. Fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Nov-06). Chris411 (18), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Sep 9, 2006 [2006 GCBF] Golden yellow with a good head, this beer is well carbonated as well, which really accentuate the hops. Very very hoppy beer but is integrated well. Enjoyable. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jun 24, 2006 Updated: Jun 28, 2006(Bottle) Purchased at the BC Liquor Store on Cambie for $1.82. Pours a large, white frothy head with an orange amber body. Nose of fully-infused West Coast hops. Lovely sweet and elixir texture mixed with a tart hoppiness. I love this beer. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Jun 23, 2006 <!-- i -->courtesy of Oakes<!-- /i --> - pours a hazy orange colour under a rocky white head leaving a beautiful lace; the nose shows a strong hoppiness where aromas of apricot dominates tones of flowers and cream; very creamy mouthfeel and medium-bodied at best; robust but not aggressive bitterness and a rather short fruity and woody finish - a good beer but laking a bit of complexity DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Jun 6, 2006 Aroma is west coast hops, citrusy, dark orange, pours a swell cream head. Flavour begins with a nice hoppy kick, followed by a comforting malt backbone. Rather full bodied, pleasantly bitter. Very good. Kudos to Ralph @ Volo for scoring this. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 14, 2006 Cloudy orange, thin white head. Citrusy aroma, maybe even a hint of banana, with a touch of pine and mint. Very earthy flavors. Much more resiny hop flavors with a dirty malt backbone. Surprisingly few citrus note considering how fuity the aroma was. Thanks to Oakes for the trade.
