shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 13, 2004 Wow... I can’t believe you people are rating this beer so poorly. I thought this was delicious. Definite citrus aroma and flavor. Grapfruit aftertaste. This was a pleasure to drink. HazelRah (276), Summerland, British Columbia, Canada Jul 19, 2005 Nose of hops, is a little sweet from the crystal and chocolate malts. A little more citrusy than hophead. Coats the tongue in fine fashion. Hops pick up steam up the sinuses as it warms. Lovely hop bite at back of the throat. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Oct 28, 2007 Bottle courtesy of boutip. Pours copper with a huge white head. Smells of bitter citrus, some soap, biscuits. Tastes of a nice blend of caramel, lemons, oranges, some pepper and spices, wildflowers and a bit resiny. Nicely balanced finish. DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jan 18, 2007 Hazy orange amber with a thin creamsicle-coloured head. Big fruity-fresh aromas initially after the pour, then as it settles it becomes more resinous and piney. Classic grapefruit and resin hop character in generous proportions with a healthy malt base. A very well-made IPA. Chris411 (18), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Sep 9, 2006 [2006 GCBF] Golden yellow with a good head, this beer is well carbonated as well, which really accentuate the hops. Very very hoppy beer but is integrated well. Enjoyable. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2005 Draft. Semi-cloudy golden orange appearance, soft colors. Fruity, smooth, hearty and soft fruit flavors, some spicy, fruity citrus hops, sweet everywhere. The smell is hoppy oranges and sweet peaches. Tart body, sweet resiny, oily finish... like orange popcicle flavors, actually. A very good IPA, I was impressed. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Dec 25, 2002 Updated: Oct 15, 2006Though I haven’t written down a fresh set of notes I thought I’d update my score since the old score (a 3 overall) was not accurate. It’s generally been in the upper 3’s to lower 4’s every time I’ve had it in the past couple of years.
Light copper; full, rich head. Aroma has lots of woody cascades. There is a crisp bitterness, but it ends there - some woody taste but nothing to balance off the bitterness nor to provide any sort of complexity. Body is a bit thin. I can see myself drinking it - it has a top-fermented Bitburger sort of appeal - but it’s not on a par with Tree Hophead. Final note: Much better on tap, with more malt backbone and fresher-tasting hops...but I can’t get it on tap here. Look for a re-rate soon though. stephen louis (162), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Dec 16, 2004 On the pour : light gold with tonnes of particulates. The nose is lots of hops Cascade and something with a lemon smell to it.I think this will be good!
On taste:This is 6.5%..you would never know it.Smooth is its first second and third name, now for details.at the start...hops perfectly blended with malt..and I mean perfect.
The middle is slightly sweet but with lemon...realy the taste is simple and consistent to the end a beautiful blend of hops and malt,I really think this is what a IPA should be...not complicated. It is a ale that needed to travel some distance, this one can do it.A true India Pale Ale
