Schottleweizen is a brand new seasonal release named in honour of Ben featuring a dark malt base, a generous dose of hops brought to life with Belgian-inspired saison yeast. It’s lively, moderately sweet, and a little bit unconventional – just like Ben.

Bomber. Clear darker copper, creamy tan foam eventually fades. Aroma of wit spices, yeast, banana and caramel. Sweet fruity toasted caramel wit malt taste, mildly spiced, some citrus and an odd tartness. Average carbonation, medium bodied, low hopped. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

650ml brown bottle. Brown pour, long lasting beige head. Lots of creamy lace. Nose has elements of chcoolate malt, roasted malt and cloves/spice. Taste has chocolate, roast and nut notes, some lemony notes. Cocoa in the finish, yeasty, some bitterness. Body a bit light, carbonation ok. Interesting twist on a dunkleweizen, but doesn’t hold my interest for the whole bottle.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark brown color with amber shades, and creamy head. Mild aroma mature banana. Smooth mouthfeel, and good body strength; mellow caramel flavor, dominating, with mild wheat character, moderate banana esters and light peppery notes. The warming alcohol is comforting.
Well brewed, balanced, clean enough for the style, and pleasant.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bananas, dry cocoa powder, burnt malt and wheat. Flavour is very similar, bringing out a mix of all these styles, including banana, clove, cocoa and roast. Very well-balanced, coming across like a typical well-made dunkelweizen. Great stuff.
