3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours deep amber with good head. Medium mouthfeel with nice carbonation. Sweetish malty flavour and not too much bitterness. A bit boozy on the pallet.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear ruby red color with a thick foamy white head and tons of lace. Aroma is faint, but there’s caramel, vanilla, bourbon, bread and dried fruits. Taste is caramel, bread, dates and plums with a nice malt backbone. Carbonation gives the impression of burnt malt but it’s still smooth with the alcohol warming. Overall it’s a nice barleywine but a bit thin but smooth.

Smells of toffee, barley, warm bread. Pours dark brown. Taste is toffee, alcohol, spice. Warming sensation. Not my style, little too toffee sweet, more of a sipping beer.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber from local bottle shop. Dark reddish amber with modest tan head. Caramel on the nose. Don’t quite know what to make of this so-called "Barley Wine". Flavor-wise it just ain’t! Heavy caramel and chocolate roasted malt flavors are prominent, but it does not have the fruityness and hoppiness that I associate with the type. An easily drinkable strong ale, but not a Barley Wine in my opinion. I can’t recommend it, frankly.

2013 small bottle. Pours copper without much head. Nose is toffee, alcohol. Flavour is mineral water with toffee and spicy alcohol. Quite sweet, muted apart from the booze. Aftertaste lingers and lingers. This is simply a malt liquor of ales; the appeal eludes me.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle - 2013 Holiday Edition - Caramel and toffee malts with a bit of vinous notes. Cloudy amber brown with a rich beige head. Vinous, dark sugary malts and lots of booze. The heavy booze burn finish is really overwhelming and makes this a pass for me.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 Rerate - 2013 Holiday Edition and Beer 13 in the Snowcase- December 13, 2013 - still very boozy on the nose, but much more interesting on the palate this time around - cool malty overtones with a little bit of noble hop grassiness. 5-3-7-4-14 3.3
Had this in the cold fridge for way too long, so I put one of those crappy thermal stick on thermometres on it to make sure we were in flavour country. Figured a beer called trainwreck was worthy of #baddecisionstuesday. Big dark malty brown looking pour with a decent tan-ish head. Aroma is bourbon casky vanilla caramel, and booze. Medium carbonation, and high alcohol warmth. Little thin on flavour and overcompensated with pure boozy "trainwreck". Lots of malty notes lost in the resulting delirium. 5-3-7-3-12 3.0

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a mostly clear brown with a large tan head That slowly settles and leaves lace all up the glass. Aroma is kinda weak... It consists of sweet dried fruits, caramel, biscuits and faint alcohol. Flavour is fruity, caramel, sweet maltiness, biscuits, some chocolate, soft alcohol mixed with a mild hop bitterness. Not as bad as a lot have been saying though I herd it was boozy so left it in the cellar for a couple years and it?s a bit thinner than I expected.
