3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Another solid release like every year from Phillipsís barley wines. Delivers on all accounts, without overwhelming you with a boozy bomb. Mild hoppiness and malty balance. Every year, never lets me down.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Visual: Pours beer bottle brown with barely any head, a very thin layer of micro retention, lots of large CO2 fast streams.
Nose: brown sugar, caramel malts. (lvl-5)-pungency
Attack: thick viscosity, micro fizzy, boozy-tangy
Mid-palate: (lvl-8)-sweetness mixed with alcohol detection, sustained creamy, (MAIN) brown sugar, toasty-roasty barley malts
Finish: dark fruit, alcohol bitterness, alcohol throat warmth, dry hoppy bitterness, malty sweet finish.
Summary: Plenty of very sweet and alcoholic malts in this one. Some complexity in texture and alcoholic jolt, decently rounded. I probably wonít specifically remember this one but it was solid.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cooper body. Not much head or lacing. A slight sweet malt dried fruit aroma but subtle. Taste is slight sweet malt, some bitterness, cola, and a boozy finish. Okay but not entirety successful.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours deep amber with good head. Medium mouthfeel with nice carbonation. Sweetish malty flavour and not too much bitterness. A bit boozy on the pallet.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear ruby red color with a thick foamy white head and tons of lace. Aroma is faint, but thereís caramel, vanilla, bourbon, bread and dried fruits. Taste is caramel, bread, dates and plums with a nice malt backbone. Carbonation gives the impression of burnt malt but itís still smooth with the alcohol warming. Overall itís a nice barleywine but a bit thin but smooth.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Smells of toffee, barley, warm bread. Pours dark brown. Taste is toffee, alcohol, spice. Warming sensation. Not my style, little too toffee sweet, more of a sipping beer.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber from local bottle shop. Dark reddish amber with modest tan head. Caramel on the nose. Donít quite know what to make of this so-called "Barley Wine". Flavor-wise it just ainít! Heavy caramel and chocolate roasted malt flavors are prominent, but it does not have the fruityness and hoppiness that I associate with the type. An easily drinkable strong ale, but not a Barley Wine in my opinion. I canít recommend it, frankly.
