Clear mohagny pour with large off white head. Aroma of malts, caramel, yeast, bready and faint hops. Taste of bready malts, caramel, yeast, slight butterscotch. Medium bodied, nice carbonation, very faint barrel notes, a little more barrel notes would greatly improve my rating.

Rating #843 - December 18, 2013 - Beer 18 in the Phillips Snowcase. Dark brown pour with a tan head that fades fairly slowly. Mild-medium carbonation. Aroma is Jack Daniels Old No. 7 - I’m not joking, i honestly thought it was tennessee sour mash with head. Taste is oaky, vanilla whisky sweetness with light hopping and some boozy notes. Can’t get over the carbonated JD drink-a-like. So weird. But so good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brown pour with a red tinge. Aromas of vanilla, coconut, caramel and whiskey. Barrels bring forward spicy, sweet whiskey notes. Slightly thin with caramel and bready malt flavours. Good, but lacks body and complexity to be a doppelbock. I’d say more of a traditional bock. Lingering whiskey notes and alcohol sweetness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark orange/red. Smaller head. Smells of vanilla, rye and molasses. Taste is combination of malt, warming sweet molasses and finishing with a rye whiskey glow. Not that familiar with Bock style, but this is a nice cool fall evening beer.

Bottle. Darker amber than expected. Sweet barrel-dominant nose, oaky vanilla and rye. On the palate the malt stands up very nicely, balancing the barrel very well. Chocolate is very evident here, quite a surprise. Much tastier than I thought it would be! Really enjoyed this.

Orange/brown pour. Small head. Aroma of vanilla, a bit of molasses, roast and a bit of oak. Taste of chocolate, a bit of rye and oak. Not much of the roast in the aroma detected here.... Quite muted actually. Medium body.

650ml brown bottle. Orange coloured with decent white foam. Nose has some toast and chocolate notes with light wood. Taste has chocolate malt, toasty malt, wood, caramel. Bit of vanilla at the end with rye and barrel notes. Pleasant but feels a bit restrained at the same time.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Pours a clear dark amber body with a minimal ring of off-white head. The nose is slightly boozy with some spicy rye, moderate vanilla and oak, and a hefty caramel malt base. The flavor is a bit boozy and alcoholic, but rather smooth. Some light toasted oak. Heavier on the caramel malt than the rye, but it does come out a bit on the finish. Rather warming, surprising that this is only listed at 6.8% ABV. Must be more placebo in nature from the whiskey flavors. Rather thick and a bit sticky with soft gentle carbonation. Pretty nice beer, not a ton of depth, and heavy on the sweetness, but it’s enjoyable.
