3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
650ml bottle pours a light amber brown color with a small white head that leaves very little lacing behind. Aroma is caramel and oak with hints of vanilla. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness with vanilla and a light grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Not as bold as many scotch ales that I have tried, more refreshing and easy to drink. Definitely, something that you could drink all night long.

Rarely does Phillips disappoint me. Pours a nice chestnut brown, very little head. Sweet, oak-y nose, slight zest, heather. Taste is a bit sharper than I expected. Honey, caramel, tiny bit of biscuit. Honestly, it tastes a bit young and weaker than what I expected. Not bad, but Phillips has done better.

Brown pour, clear. Thin soapy head on top, some lacing. Nose has caramel and brown sugar and some oak. In the mouth the beer has notes of caramel, vanilla and oak. Bit of caramel, butterscotch and vanilla at the end with big oak notes. A enjoyable brew

Scotch ales are not really my thing, not a bourbon fan. Pours cloudy trend amber. Smells of malt, floral, hints of bourbon, wood barrel and tobacco. Taste is malt with an underlying bourbon taste. Finish is fairly smooth and a little sweet. A sipping beer.

Rating #849 - December 21, 2013 - Beer 21 from the Snowcase. Light brown amber pour with a bubbly tan foam with little retention. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee, vanilla, oak, honey. Taste is quite sweet at first, prolonged oaky vanilla, light tobacco, toffee sweetness and the presence of oak in the body. I enjoyed this beer more as it started to warm. Very nice medium-full body, mild alcohol note on the palate which is typical for the style. Pleasant.

341ml brown bottle from the Snowcase. Brown pour, clear. Thin soapy head on top, some lacing. Nose has caramel and brown sugar and some oak. In the mouth the beer has notes of caramel, vanilla and oak. Bit of caramel, butterscotch and vanilla at the end with big oak notes. Not quite as rich as I was hoping for, but quite enjoyable.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pour a clear reddish amber body with a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is very oaky with sweet toasty and caramel malt with a little fruitiness. Light notes of coffee, alcohol, and maybe a touch of tobacco. The flavor is a bit thin and maybe even showing a little infection, it’s a little tart and slight acetic on the finish. Still lots of wood and some sweet toffee maltiness, but the malt is fairly thin. A little alcohol on the finish with the tannic oak. Lighter bodied than expected, soft fizzy carbonation. Not too good this one, I think the infection is still pretty early on in its influence.

Pours brown with a quickly fading head and no lacing. Nose is toffee and maybe some vanilla. Notes of toffee, vanilla, plums, brown bread. Taste is medium sweet. Light body, quite watery, low carbonation. Maybe my bottle is old? Just ok for me.
