Cask conditioned at JDW Penny Black, Bicester 24-07-06. Pale golden in colour with a very fruity nose, pink grapefruit?. Flavour was also citrusy and very fresh, tangy and crisp. An excellent if slightly one dimensional beer.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Head of Steam in Euston. Hoppy aroma with slight tobacco. Not bad in the looks dept. On the brown side of golden with just a thin film for a head that leaves clearly layered lace. Tells a story of every sip of your drink. I love that. Creamy flavour with tobacco notes and hints of tangerine and apricot. Good dump of citric hops for the finish. A fine drop of English actually. Like one of those old friends that is a little thick but you get on well. :)

Pint on tap in Chester. Orange appearance with a good head. Tangy flavour, strong citrus influence, All I can think about is oranges when drinking this ale, after taste however was rather sharp. I enjoyed the beer.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2004 Hand pulled at the Anchor, Birmingham. Superb beer. Felt like an IPA to me, with it’s fruity, acidic body, and delicious hoppy finish that hits you with a big grapefruit rush. Very balanced and light on the tongue, would have been good anyway, but the finish is the icing dans la cake. Pale gold, with a pine aroma.

Gazza (726) - Worcester, Worcestershire, ENGLAND - APR 13, 2004
Cracking pale ale from Phoenix, one of their best. Golden colour with a strange malty, honeyed and grapefruity nose. Taste is packed with flavours and well bodied; grapefruit, lemons, honey, orange peel and wheat. Lasting dry, citrussy hop finish. Very refreshing. (cask in Smithfield, Manchester)
