OKBeer (1104), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Jan 17, 2008 Dark brown colour with a full lasting frothy and creamy off-white head. Light chocolate, roasty, spicy citrus, and light butterscotch aroma. Light butterscotch, citrus, and faint spice flavours with some roasty undertones. Light bodied, thin and dry. The English yeast character doesn’t work all that well with the dunkelweizen style the rest of the beer aligns with, and the filtering kills a lot of the spicing, with a result that isn’t unpleasant, just not all that exciting.
mabel (1583), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 12, 2008 [1514-20080704] Bottle. Sweet corn meal aroma. Slightly hazy, dark brown red body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet peat flavour has some sour notes. Medium body. Perhaps it "shouldn’t be this sour," which makes it not so interesting after all.
(w/ jerc, manuchampions, tupalev) tupalev (2285), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 10, 2008 Last bottle of the night, shared with Jerc, Mabel, and Jon. Strong malty sweet aroma. Medium dark brown, no head. Light dark malt taste, but sourness there too, and that detracted. Perhaps a bit old or off, a decent beer lurking in mediocrity. jerc (3102), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 8, 2008 2008-07-04. Very dark brown body with a good sized beige head.Musty grassy aroma, light zippy note. Flavour has some brief highlights of dry malt but a touch of sourness becomes more obtrusive as the glass goes on, distracting from a grainy malt core. Average palate. Starting to show signs of a downturn, but seems to be average to start. Average palate. Bottle via OKBeer MrManning (1429), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2008 500 ml bottle- Deep chestnut brown pour is topped with a frothy, mocha cap, leaving nice lace. The aromas are grainy and sour, and filled with diacetyl. There is a dark fruit component trying to come through, but it only makes a brief appearance, as the off aromas constantly take over. Tastes sweet upfront, of figs and grains, some bready yeast as well. Then comes the unfortunate sour and buttery disaster. It completely takes over everything else. The finish is grainy and sour, with a boatload of buttered popcorn in the aftertaste. I’ve never had a butterbomb dunkelweizen before. I really wanted to like this beer, but unfortunately, I just couldn’t. guil0000 (43), Quebec, Canada Apr 24, 2008 I usually like these type of beers, this one sure looked good but didnt really appeal to me, had a strange flavor to it that didnt really do it , Overall wasnt really exciting
