A hearty meat ‘n’ potatoes Irish-style ale. Its malty sweetness coats the palate like candy, and is offset in the finish with spicy Goldings hops.

Mildred’s Irish Ale is the Irish Red dry-hopped with local Goldings hops from Southan Farms.

Pours a dark ruby red that’s fairly opaque with a thick tan head. The aroma is heavy on roasted coffee beans, celery, burnt cookies, and caramel. The mouthfeel is smooth, with low-medium carbonation. It’s a bit thicker than most Irish Reds. The taste is coffee, sweet caramel and a mild bitter finish. The Kent hops are there, but not as much as I’d like.

Pours deep ruby amber with a good beige froth sittin atop. Nice earthy malty aromas, burnt sugars, some coffee, slightly roasty. Very nice roasty flavours, subtle coffee, earthy, some bitterness, sweetness follows. Good full earthy finish, lotsa coffee.A nice example! Thanks Jadoreblanche!

Bottle. [ Courtesy of OKBeer ] Light unclear amber red color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, moderate yeast, light jelly strewed strawbeery. Flavor is moderate sweet, light acidic and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft.

Ice-cold draught pint at the Hilltop Restaurant and Bar, Fredericton ND, May 2007. Hey it was the only bar near enough our motel to walk to, so shut up....pours dirty copper into the 20 oz frosted glass, with a touch of head...nose is reasonably malty/toasty, assertive, lightly cidery when cold....but alas, on the tongue its infected, cardboardy....the more you drink the more grossly vegetal and spoilt it tastes....low carbonation, muddy and slick mouthfeel. My guess is unclean tap lines or a very old keg at this place, which seemed to be serving 90% Bud Light to families and youngsters. I have a bottle and will re-try as this seemed a particularly poor sample.

Depp mahogany with a thick head that generates a lot of clingy lace. Chocolatey aroma with some figgy fruit as well. The flavour profile is much the same. Medium sweetness. Very good, almost porterish, but overcarbonation brings it down a couple of points.

Robe orangée très claire aux reflets rouges surmontée d’une mousse blanche fugace. Arômes légers. Saveurs légères de caramel et de mélasse.

My bottle shared with hogtown Harry and Blankboy. Deep red, nice sized bubbly head. Looks great. Aroma. Wow, lots here! Fresh coffee, very dry, sweet toffee - a fantastic aroma. Taste follows through on the promise of the aroma. Lovely fresh coffee roast taste, very nutty and sweet. Maybe just a little thin, but the mouthfeel is medium and foamy. Wow, an outstanding quaffable Canadian beer. Maybe this is what an Irish ale is supposed to take like and every one else has just got it all wrong.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry and tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear deep ruby with an average size lasting foamy off-white head. Nice aroma of Goldings hops and roasty malt. Sweet flavour follows the aroma along with some fruit and a decent bitter finish. Light to medium bodied. Pretty good.

Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, tupalev’s bottle. Deep clear ruby with an average creamy-foamy beige head. Surprisingly roasty dry malt aroma, sweet and dusty, nutshell bitterness - like a mild sweet old style porter - perhaps a little syrupy. Taste is similar, quite grainy, strong tangy-yeast and bitter nutshell finish but give it credit, roastiest "red" I’ve ever tasted. Slightly wan body, bitter and astringent, very long linger on the tongue, a tad harsh - interesting, well done.
