COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The classic Irish-style dry stout is the basic background of this aromatic ebony elixir but deviations may occur from batch to batch as we improvisationally wander through variations on the theme.

Deep black pour with a tight tan-coloured head. Looks just about perfect. The nose is quite nice. There is a lovely cocoaish character with a bit of light roast. There is also a bit of cola and cold coffee in here too. The flavour is decent. Light tartness with a bit of soft lactic character. Light-bodied with a fairly roasty finish. It’s simple but tasty enough.

[2785-20100219] 500mL bottle. Rich roasty coffee grounds aroma has very mild hints of banana. Hazy, black brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light brown head. Coffee bitter roasted malt grain flavour. Full body. Great roasty brew, a good note to end the evening.

Pours a pitch black color with a medium, creamy, light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and mild roasted malt. The flavor is kind of boring, there’s some chocolate and shy roasted malt along some dryness. The body is light with a powdery texture and soft carbonation. This beer reminds me why I’m not much of a fan of dry stouts.

A: Poured with a very large, brown head that appeared fizzy and first and then started looking kind of creamy. Diminished very slowly to 1/2 finger. Some light lacing left on the glass. Body is black and therefore opaque. S: Nice aroma consisting mainly of chocolate, with some slight roasted coffee in there as well. T: Average duration flavor of, again, mainly chocolate, with a very slight bitter finish... that actually comes across as watery after swallowing. It’s not a very thin ending or anything, but it just feels like it should taste a little... fuller. M: Light-bodied and slightly creamy, with soft carbonation. Again, a little too watery. D: A pretty good stout that starts to open up a bit as you continue sipping on it... if the mouthfeel and finish were improved slightly, I think it could be REALLY good.

500 ml bottle sampled 6/18/08. Opaque dark brown colour with ruby glints. Mostly diminishing creamy and frothy tan head. Milk chocolate, roasty and lightly acidic coffee, and caramel aroma with fruity notes. Vinous, acidic coffee, dark chocolate, and roasty flavours with a light roasty bitter finish. Medium bodied, smooth and lightly chewy but seems a bit over-attenuated. Flavourful take on the dry Irish style stout.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2010 From bottle. Pitch black colour with a tan head which clings to the glass. Delicious smoked, roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Sweet, smooth texture with a coffee bean flavour. All together very rich in fruit berries but pretty good.

Been a while since I had this in bottle but on tap it is one of the better choices in this province and is usually my first choice. in bottle I agree with the low score it seems the brewery is losing something in transition but on tap this is a very tasty brew.

(Rating #2193)

In short: An amateurish black mess. Not even bland, this is offensive.
How: Bottles. Consumed fresh a few weeks after purchase. Tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head
In long: Nose of leather couch, burnt cereals and chocolate. Soda-pop mouthfeel with aggressive carbonation and lack of body. Flavour spectrum includes vinyl, lactic notes, undesired astringency, chocolate, burnt cereals, ashes, a little fruity sourness. This is a mess. Note to TaktikMtl, next time you’re in New-Brunswick why no bring us back some lobsters instead.

A large deep beige head culminates over the black body. Unclean soapy nose reminds me of my arctic breeze deodorant - not a good thing. Lasting chalky finish with a certain astringency, not a good thing. Main flavours include chocolate powder - passable and glue - not a good thing. No real developed maltiness and disrupting harsh carbonation. A train wreck.
