thebeertourist (1888), Oslo, Norway Dec 3, 2006 75 cl bottle bought at Salone del Gusto. Cork comes off with a bang and out pours an enormous and seemingly unstoppable foam and underneath the hazy, pale yellow beer. The aroma is very fruity with oranges and coriander. Flavours are tart and fruity, but with good bitterness, especially towards the finish. Medium body. An exciting saison from Italy- the use of the bitter chinotto peel integrates well.
fishingnet (856), Brandon, Florida, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma of ripe citrus, sweet malt, yeast, and spices. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and sweet sugary finish. Interesting. Angeloregon (2001), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 24, 2008 On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe in Seattle, WA for $9.50/10oz.--Deep hazy mustard orange-copper body with a thick, fluffy, bright white head. Metallic, citrus nose. Orange lemon metal tart flavor. Metal all the way through leads me to believe this was slightly off, but not too bad otherwise. MuttyD (88), Cambridge, USA Sep 23, 2008 First Italian brew I’ve tried. Hazy yellow/golden color with thin white head that quickly disappoints. Not very characteristic of a saison - very sweet, loads of grapes, honey, and bananas. Creamy on the palate with a clean finish. Enjoyable, but not very saison-ish. Old_Mr_Crow (1042), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 3, 2008 Tap at Brouwers. Nice to see some interesting beers on tap from beyond US/Belgium.
Hazy amber orange, nice whilte head. Strong orange peel aroma, some banana esters, Gently sweet and spiced, a touch of musty sourness but not enough to confer real character. A touch of lemon juice. Perfectly drinkable but a bit thin, more banana and less dust than I like in my saison. vyvvy (1755), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours hazy copper / orange with a soapy off-white head. The aroma is quite bready, a touch citric, basement must, earthy and lightly spicy. Medium milky body with lots of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts like the aroma with some smooth caramel traits making it much richer than most saisons. The finish dries out and spices show more. A decent beer, but doesn’t seem all that saison-like.
