Cask at The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield, ’The Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire’ on the Valley of Beer Day 16-08-08 Pours gold with a white head. Tasty beer that leaks tropical fruit flavours, sily smooth bitterness which is held in check by the honey sweetness, nice creaminess, lovely flavourful beer. Aren’t Pictish great, my third Pictish on the bounce, admittedly this one was my dad’s but I had quite a bit of it.

Cask at the Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield, on RateBeer Valley of Beer Crawl ’08. Pictish beers only penetrate as far south as Bedford when in a Festival, so I was determined to try some more while up north. This was gold with a white head. Slightly buttery aroma. Creamy, biscuity taste with some fruity sourness. ’Silverstone beer, not Rockingham,’ said haddonsman eloquently. When asked to supply another adjective, inspiration had clearly deserted him, for, in place of that fine motorsport metaphor, all he could come up with was the somewhat pedestrian ’acceptable’. At this point SilkTork began to heap criticism on Mes’s new trainers.

Pale half pint at local beer festival.
Taste is dry hops, some malt and a slight after taste in a bitter finish.
Fairly average pint, not special.

Gravity cask at the Battersea Beer Festival, 6th Feb 2008. Golden colour with some head. Fruity, hoppy aroma with vanilla hint. Taste is similar - but with some wheatiness too. Palate is decent - overall this is an enjoyable beer.

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2004)
One of Pictish’s earlier brews, and one of the reasons they have such a high reputation for their beers. Beautifully crisp sharp grapefruity citrus aroma. Taste follows, but also has a grainy malty body. Long hoppy bitter finish. Best of the Fest, for us.

Cask@GBBF2007. Golden colour, not much head. Aroma is fruity hops, some grass and slight grass. Flavour is the same along with sweet nectar in a nice balance. Pleasant, but still quite boring.
