4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Gravity cask at the Old Fountain Beer Festival. Pours opaque brown with a bubbly, beige head. Lovely char, tobacco and cocoa nose. Lightly sweet flavor with tons of roasted malts, tobacco, slight minerality, very little bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Great finish, very roasty with light burned wood, mocha, coffee grounds, light dryness, and still very mild bitterness. Some hints of brown sugar, too. A wonderful British porter. I can’t see this being much better.

Back at The Crown Inn, Stockport for the third time, 02/02/13. Sulphur, coal and Twiglet aroma with a hint of cocoa. Glossy black with a low dense tan head. Still, glossy, soft with a lactic, mocha and charcoal character. Dusty cocoa afters. Powdery, a touch dried-fruity, full of lace. Pretty good.
