tmoreau (1269) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - NOV 8, 2009
Mug served at the brewpub bar with a dark brown appearance and light ruby tones showing through. The head was a modest, off white to light tan with fair cling to the lacing. Everything about this beer was light. In the aroma, there was very subtle German malt scent, roasted notes as mocha and hints of sweetness and caramel. The flavor was similar, adding some low bitterness to the somewhat thin body. Subtly dry was the finish. A no frills, sessionable, black lager.

Draft at brewpub. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Flavor of chocolate powder, nuts, caramel, and perhaps a tad amount of tobacco. Just enough bitterness to keep it in balance. Smooth finish. Not bad. Solid

aroma of light roast. flavor of cola and iced coffee. some sweetness but not overpowering. soft mouthfeel with some sizzle from hops. very controlled sweetness for the style makes this a winner.

Growler. Poured a clear dark brown color with dark orange highlights. The head was tan. Smelled of unsweetened chocolate brownie with hay and nut accents. Light to medium bodied and slightly sweet. I tasted hints of molasses, caramel apple, grass, and lightly roasted nuts. It’s a Schwarzbier,

A clear copper ale with a thin moka head. In aroma, a nice caramel malt, light molasses note. In mouth, a rather light schwarzbier, with light sweet caramel, very thin. So-so. On tap at brewpub, May 18 2009.

(10/10/08) Draught at the brewpub in Chicago. Dark brown with no head. Malty aroma with some diacetyl and some caramel. Sweet and malty flavor with some butterscotch, toasted notes and some caramel. Some metallic hints in the finish. Medium-bodied. Not great.

Tap at the brewpub. Dark brown, filtered, almost no head. Aroma is muddy and vegetal, easy drinking, with some molasses, salt, caramel in the flavor. Not bad.
