Jokes (1449), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2006 Growler. Clear, amber body with a big, robust, tightly packed off-white head. Cool, subtle aroma of whole grains, caramel, pine resin and grapefruit rind. It’s all there, but none of it is overpowering; you really expect a balanced, drinkable APA based on the nose. The body is smooth and easy drinking, maybe lacking a little in body, but that makes it easier to drink. The flavor profile is balanced and subtle. The malt contributes some sweet caramel and toasted grains and the hops offer pine and citrus fruit, but only a mild amount of bitterness on the tongue. It stays in balance from beginning to end. In many ways I imagine this to be an Americanized bitter, in that it’s smooth, easy drinking and low ABV, but has nice balance and a great depth of flavor. Reminiscent of Dale’s Pale Ale. A winner from Piece, at least in my book.
