3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 CanIHave4Beers (2496) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - JAN 10, 2009
Notes from a tasting a couple of months back.
Pours dark almost black.
Aroma of oatmeal and roasted barley. some faint hops very wholesome aroma. Falvor of coffee & oats with some slight fruity notes. there is a little cardboard too. This is generally too light bodied and a little too smooth.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 puzzl (3172) - New York, New York, USA - OCT 27, 2008
Tap at the brewpub. Mild, malty nose with a touch of coffee. Bitter flavor, served far too cold. Hops have no distinct flavor. Way too much carbonation. Very dull.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 NobleSquirrel (3313) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 26, 2008
Draft at piece. Pour is a deep black with a thin offwhite head. Kinda surprised this wasn’t nitro. Very nice nose, quite sweet with distinct lacticity to it. On the taste, subdued roastiness, nice lactic bite and coffee coming out. A bit off on the carbonation aspect, but still quite smooth. Nice.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 17thfloor (2403) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 14, 2008
O please... this is better than 59%! Pours a clear glowing mahogany with little head. Nice roasty malty creamy chocolate aroma. Flavor follows, roasted malts, maybe some oatmeal, chocolate and coffee. The only downside is the light body and soda carbonation, however I guess that makes it easier to drink with their pizza.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rederic (2559) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 27, 2008
Dark black color, with no head, with a faint roasty, floral hop nose, with a hint of black chocolate, a mild dark coffee in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a roasty, mochaish vanilla-like character, with a faint black coffee, chocolatey accent, hint of burnt toast, light floral hop leafiness, leading towards a roasty, lingering bitterness finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ogglethorp (916) - Ohio, USA - APR 25, 2008
On tap. Pours nearly black with a medium tan colored head. Aroma is chocolate, carmel, roast. Flavor is coffee, choclate, roasted malt. Palate is fairly full bodied, medium carbonation, finished bitter. lacking in the flavor category, but decent.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Aurelius (3445) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 12, 2008
Mottled, thin head. Coldwater, roast aroma. Roast, light creosote, a little fruitiness in the mix. Slightly tangy, medium light body. Servicable, a little bland.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Walt (2449) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAR 28, 2008
Pour is black with a thin brown head...rich roasty chocolate nose...roasty chocolate flavor with subtle coffee bitterness cleaning up the sweetness...
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 WickerBrew (311) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 20, 2008
This is sort of a dud, not much taste at all. Very weak at first and a little smokiness, thats about it. I have all the respect in the world for the brewpub but this beer should go the way of the dodo.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 chicagodri (1683) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 2, 2008
A decent stout, but nothing special from Piece (I usually enjoy most of the stuff they brew). The picture pretty much describes it...pours blacks with a thin brown head. Hints of chocolate and coffee. It seemed a little dry. A pretty decent stout though, but not outstanding. Stick with the hoppy beers at Piece.
