sampled at FOBAB 2008... dark brown caramel pour with no head to be seen....sweek oak and woody notes in the aroma... woody vanilla and light tart cherry flavor. drinkable with medium carbonation and some chalkiness in the consistency.

(11/24/08) Draught at the brewpub in Chicago. Muddy dark brown with no head. Aroma of malt, some roastiness, wood, bourbon and chocolate noe. Sweet-sourish flavor with some slightly chocolatey malt, some sour cherries, some nuts, oak and some bourbon noes. Medium-bodied. Interesting, not bad, and I like the cherries tones but a bit too much bourbon for my liking.

On tap at FoBAB. Poured medium, hazy brown with a short cap of beige head. The aroma was sweet upfront with brown sugar and toasted caramel represented.. a touch of vanilla and oak gave pleasant accents. Sour cherries really came through in the flavor first and foremost.. caramel supported and I picked up a bit of chocolate on the back-end along with lots of sour cherries and oak. Medium-bodied and sour overall on the palate with lots of fruit and barrel character.. didnít flow too well across the palate, but it was still a solid drink.

FoBAB 2008. Poured a murky brown color. The head was khaki with an orange tint. Smelled of subdued cherry and bourbon. Medium bodied and slightly tart with black cherry, booze, and light chocolate flavors.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2008 Agree with the others that this is kind of a mystery beer. A sour barleywine is what i could only guess after tasting. It was sort of a dud though. Flavors did not mesh well and that wierd cherry taste seemed to be leading the charge. Maybe if they lightened it up a bit and didnt have the sour fighting such a big backbone i would like it more.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2008 draft at Piece. the server couldnít tell me anything other than "itís a sour beer". i donít think "brown ale" is the right categorization as the dominant flavors are definitely the sour cherries. very sweet and a bit funky, i was actually thinking this was somewhere between a flemish sour and some of the weirder quads iíve had. i liked it a lot though. and definitely chocolatey

FoBAB 08 and on tap @ Piece. Pours a dark brown with a thin head. Nice sour cherry aroma, little caramel. I remember it being a little better at the festival....served a little too cold at the brewpub. Nice tart cherry flavor. Smooth, the 8.5% isn’t noticeable at all. Good stuff.
