On tap at the brewpub. Poured a dark brown with a grayish brown head that dissipated completely. Aroma was full of roasted malt, dark bread and other dark grains. Flavor was similar with a bit of oat coming out, but mainly dark grains and roasted malts dominate the beer.

Nice stout. The roastiness sort of sits on top of the other flavors. Only a little bit of the oily-ness of some Oatmeal stouts. Maybe a bit thin? Serving: Tap
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hombrepalo (1633) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 22, 2010
Pint @ Piece. Pours a rich, nearly opaque black with a thick light brown head. Aroma of sweet rolled oats and dry roasted malt. Starts rich and caramel malty sweet with lots of dark chocolate flavors and a touch of hops. Finishes semi-sweet and dry with lingering coffee and chocolate malt.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Frank (2189) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2010
Black, or rather, deep brown. Dark tan head leaves lace behind in fine sheets. Mocah nose along w/ a bit of grain husks and a very slight hint of tart cherry. Rich, smooth roasted barley flavor implies chocolate to the point you almost imagine there’s some vanilla in there. very lightly tart w/ a bit of bitterness to balance the slight sweetness. Medium bodied but w/ that soft oatmeal slickness despite mildly prickly carbonation.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackDonald (1127) - Boise, Idaho, USA - AUG 9, 2009
On tap @ Piece as Roland the Headless Oat Stout. This wasn’t bad, but it could have used some improvement. A bit of chocolate and caramel in the nose and a bit of sweetness from the oats, and maybe just a hint of gamey leather there as well. Good roasted flavor throughout but was just a little bit light in the loafers. Needs some tweaking and it will be delicious.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerBunker (709) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - JUL 23, 2009
On tap at Piece. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, oat, caramel, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is of oat, coffee, and chocolate. Has a backbone of roasted malt and a decent amount of caramel. Has some smokey undertones to it as well. Lots of lingering sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel was light, but not too thin. A very drinkable beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 chicagodri (1683) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 8, 2009
Pours dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Nose is of roasted malt, touch of smoke, and coffee. A little bit of a light body for a stout, but very drinkable. Good roast flavor though. I ordered the beer because I had never seen it and was a little worried when I saw it was 4.5% ABV. However, I was happy this beer actually had some flavor. Bring on the new beers Piece.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 NobleSquirrel (3336) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 4, 2009
Draft at Piece as Roland the headless brewmaster. Pours a deep brown with a light tan head. Nose is on the sweet side with chocolate, coffee and roast coming through. maybe a tinge of smoke. On taste, quite bitter, somewhat astringent, though a nice one. First new Piece beer that I’ve had in a while. Nice.

Growler from the brewery. Dark, pretty much black pour with off white head that lingers a bit. Aroma of chocolate, coco wheat, Flavor is chocolate with some roast and a dry, oatmeal finish. Nice beer to sit and drink on a summer night.
