Deep amber pour with decent off white head. Aroma of bread, soft touch of malt, hop bitterness. Taste quite hoppy, touch zesty, malty, ripe fruit. Body full chewy/ syrupy feel. Meh

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy but bright amber color with a fluffy white head. Aroma was nicely soft and grain forward, some toasty bready notes with a small citric and spiced character. Flavor starts with an initial bready sweetness, softly citric before picking up a sharper spicy character the rides through the finish with yeast and some clove notes. Crisp and slightly dry in the finish. Medium body and a sharper carbonation. Not a bad offering

On tap at Piece. . Dark amber pour like a plum color with small off-white head. Some fruit aroma with a nice mellow malt character on the pallet. Like a triple stlyed beer with a bit over the top hops and a smooth dominate bread malt flavor, didn’t think this was a Biere de garde thought it was a triple.

Unusual Biere de Garde. More hoppy than usual. Palate was a bit off. However pretty good stuff. Serving: Tap

Tap at the brewpub. Pours amber with a slight white head. Med+ body. Flavor is sweetish, but there’s a lot of hop. Seems a hoppy thing. But well balanced. Whatever. It’s good.

Aroma of what reminded me of a red cherry sucker, not very fragrant, has that Belgian apple pear sweetness, this puppy is all about the fruity sweet esters,a little astringent in finish, a little confusing ,just a mild sweet bomb maybe to attract some of the ladies. Our waitress was surprised when we told her it was one of our least favorites,as she said it was one of the more popular brews at the brewpub, surprising to me with all the great hop beers made here

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a cloudy dark amber color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, bananas and clove. Medium, smooth body with flavors of fruity esters, yeast and caramel malt. The finish is fruity with a light spice and yeast aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

aroma is mostly clean with tiny hint of light hops and devoid of yeast. flavor is rock candy, sulfur and yeast. big hop pine comes and goes. appearance is dead hazy orange essentially zero head, carb or lacing with gritty/grainy mouthfeel and served at bonechilling temperatures. a rare wreck for piece.

On tap.
Poured what seemed to be a copper color -- hard to tell because the lighting was pretty dim inside the pub. Thin white head formed and stayed after settling a little, leaving good bits of lace. Aroma was pretty muted but gave up hints of sweet sugary malt, zesty yeast, modest hop bitterness and dried sour fruits. Flavor was quite sweet up front with a heavy dose of malt hinting at caramel and molasses. Hops showed up only enough to temper the sweetness, never really becoming assertive. The dried fruit character showed up in the finish, just in time to remind you that this is, after all, a farmhouse style ale; but it only barely makes an appearance. Palate was thick and a bit sticky -- pretty substantial. Not sure this stacks up well as a biere de garde, but when viewed without the confines of style guidelines, this is pretty tasty stuff. I would have rated it higher if they had told me it was an American strong ale, as that’s really more what it tasted like.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2010 rerate. Much more balanced overall in the sweet side but nice nose and flavor Belgian yeast dominates with herbal hops. Creamy body. Sweet but decent. Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Hazy amber appearance with a light head. Malty red fruit aroma some cherry notes. Medium bodied cherry, chocolate, pineapple, sweet, fruit, is that mint?. The aftertaste is funky as biere de garde’s should be, but this one is not good. It just seems to get worse, i’ll stop drinking so it will stop losing points.
