Spicy, sweet summer fruit. Tastes like summer. Very pleasant. Slight alcohol finish. Nice offering. Tastes very fresh and lively.

Tastes like carmelized marshmallow, clarity brilliant, aroma complex esters, overall... Bottom of the server, awesome, that’s what a true bier de garde wants to be

A golden ale with a thick lacing off white head. In aroma, a nice fruity malt with herbal notes, cream, orange pulp. In mouth, a nice sweet malt with orange peels, bananas, weizen like. Nice.

Draft at Apex in Portland. That’s right, Portland. Oregon. Seriously. Cloudy amber color, white edge head. Aroma of dusty sweet straw. Taste is similar.

TheAlum (5701) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUN 24, 2013
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep amber pour, well hazed with frothy offwhite head, dies to a film, laces ok and froths as a filmy layer. Aromas offer gentle sweetness, some fruity esters, gentle spice and yeastiness grows as it warms, some mellow clove, bready and doughy malts. Initial is medium bodied, a bit more full than expected. Apple, pear, doughy malt elements mix with Belgian yeasty, some spice, and deccent sweetness. Mellow spice, some dryness, a touch of girth into the middle. A touch sweet, some girthiness. Solid, a bit sweet and big for me. Meh.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a note of light sweet grains with a touch of light fruit and a hint of Belgian yeast. Flavor has a lot of light fruit and floral with a backbone of caramel and Belgian spice.

On draught at Apex. Cloudy dark golden color. Yeasty aroma of dark cherry. Flavor of bubblegum, cherry, yeast. Sweeter than a typical bière de garde, but good nonetheless.

Amber color with a thin head. Sweet aroma full of caramel and fruit. Mouth burns a bit. Lots of estery notes. Fruity taste with hints of yeast and esters. Nice balance. Really drinkable.

On tap at the pub, looks like this hasn’t been brewed for awhile... The beer pours a light gold that is slightly cloudy, annoys me. A light off white head, no retention ok lace... The aroma is totally dead, I get nothing, bored out of my mind... The taste is pretty boring too, yeast, way too much alcohol, a hint of floral hops, weird sweetness right out of left field. This was by far one of my lease favorite beers of their 8 I had. Skip this.

Draft at Piece. Pours a deep bronze-copper with a fluffy head that sticks around. Nose is quite estery and slightly phenolic. Notes of dark fruits and bit of banana and clove. Pretty clean and sound. Belgiany. On taste, round and creamy with a nice level of bitterness. Pretty solid BdG, though I’m not sure why the hell they decided to brew this style.
