3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Piece. Pours a deep bronze-copper with a fluffy head that sticks around. Nose is quite estery and slightly phenolic. Notes of dark fruits and bit of banana and clove. Pretty clean and sound. Belgiany. On taste, round and creamy with a nice level of bitterness. Pretty solid BdG, though I’m not sure why the hell they decided to brew this style.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draught during my Great Lakes region brew tour. Well, this is probably not a true Biere de Garde given that it is likey no secondary bottle fermentation took place. But I think it did achieve a likeness to others in the style and was definitely a solid beer. Surrender pours cloudy bright amber with a frothy white head. There is a aroma of caramel, flowers, banana. Mostly sweeter, malty notes are present. This is clean and sweet in the mouth with notes of cloves, corrander, banana. Hidden beneath the fruit/spice boquet is a tiny sour note of cloth and/or bacon which blends very well with the complexity of everything around it. This is very solid.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 18, 2010 rerate. Much more balanced overall in the sweet side but nice nose and flavor Belgian yeast dominates with herbal hops. Creamy body. Sweet but decent.
Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Hazy amber appearance with a light head. Malty red fruit aroma some cherry notes. Medium bodied cherry, chocolate, pineapple, sweet, fruit, is that mint?. The aftertaste is funky as biere de garde’s should be, but this one is not good. It just seems to get worse, i’ll stop drinking so it will stop losing points.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Copper pour with rich off-white head. Nose has a yeasty fruitiness. flavors are slightly sour apples and pears with a light herbal or floral spicing highlight. Very slightly tart in the finish. Very drinkable now and could probably benefit from aging.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Piece. . Dark amber pour like a plum color with small off-white head. Some fruit aroma with a nice mellow malt character on the pallet. Like a triple stlyed beer with a bit over the top hops and a smooth dominate bread malt flavor, didn’t think this was a Biere de garde thought it was a triple.

Unusual Biere de Garde. More hoppy than usual. Palate was a bit off. However pretty good stuff. Serving: Tap

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma of what reminded me of a red cherry sucker, not very fragrant, has that Belgian apple pear sweetness, this puppy is all about the fruity sweet esters,a little astringent in finish, a little confusing ,just a mild sweet bomb maybe to attract some of the ladies. Our waitress was surprised when we told her it was one of our least favorites,as she said it was one of the more popular brews at the brewpub, surprising to me with all the great hop beers made here

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Piece, Aug 2006. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a white head. Spiciness, clove, banana and earthiness in the nose. Nice, bold and malty - notes of caramel/toffee with spicey clove notes, banana, grass, hay, fruitiness and light raisin. Pleasantly sweet with balancing bitterness. Proper spritzy carbonation and a smooth, medium texture. Quite enjoyable. And their pizza rules.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy but bright amber color with a fluffy white head. Aroma was nicely soft and grain forward, some toasty bready notes with a small citric and spiced character. Flavor starts with an initial bready sweetness, softly citric before picking up a sharper spicy character the rides through the finish with yeast and some clove notes. Crisp and slightly dry in the finish. Medium body and a sharper carbonation. Not a bad offering

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught: orange, coppery haze, miniscule ivory head. Very pleasing, fruity aroma that kicks with yeasty esters: mangos, blood oranges, pineapple pulp, along with other interesting notes of dark (lightly burnt) sugar, sourdough and ever so faint grains. The flavours were more controlled by the fruity sweetness as opposed to the dry, grainy, earthier flavours that I have experienced with this style. I enjoyed drinking this, but couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if they could referment it in a bottle and I could keep in the cellar for a year and then sample…
