3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 3fourths (6933) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 2, 2012
draft. wonderfully dry and fruity hop nose and flavor, vibrant tartness and zesty, snappy hop acid (lemon + orange pith, tropical and floral, no resin) with fluffy carbonation. clean pale malt is moderately-to-heavily dry with bright, full, quenching malt acid. surprisingly well made and levels above Alpha King sampled side-by-side (which in recent years is much too caramel-heavy, vegetal and goopy for my tastes). probably one of the better low-to-medium alcohol hop showcase beers in the Chicago area, if clean, snappy pale malt and bright American floral / fruit hops are what you dig.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear gold with a slight orange head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet citrus with a hint of backing bitterness and a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has a combination of sweet and bitter citrus with a backing sweet grain note.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (4283) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - FEB 1, 2013
Couple drafts on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Been meaning to get out and try this for awhile. Pours a richer faintly hazed amber orange hue. Firely glow throughout, summer sunset meets my eyes, even in this environment. A frothy loose whitish head atop dies to a film laces small. Aromas are richer deep grapefruit, some florals, a touch resinous. Very grapefruit juice and rind driven, touches of bready and almost a toasty malt feel. Some lemon, grass. Initial is thinner, a light body meets a firm hop bitterness. Strong grapefruit and rind, juice and lemons. Touches of grass, florals, gentle bready malts presence just kisses gently even as we move through the middle. Light bodied, richly bitter and hop flavored. Perhaps a bit thin but quite "crushable". Dry and grapefruit ridden. Pretty nice beer albeit a bit thin. Nice very fresh and vibrant offering here, if a bit one sided and one dimensional as far as that flavor profile. Still, I’d buy it a bunch.

On tap: The aroma consists of citrus, tropical fruits, grapefruit, and herbal notes. It’s a hazy dull amber with a small white head that leaves some sporadic fine webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of tropical fruits. The finish has moderate grapefruit, light lemon, and a touch of herbal notes. It’s light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, this is really tasty and easy drinking. I could drink a lot of this.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 NobleSquirrel (3286) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 5, 2012
Draft at Piece. Finally a new beer for me... Pours a nice looking, slightly hazed gold, frothy white head. The nose is bright and fruity, citrus and tropical fruit, light resin. Some soft and toasty malt as well. On tasting, an easy drinking Apa. Medium-high bitterness, light sweetness. Fruity and resiny hops. Dry finish. Solid.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 pantanap (3148) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 24, 2012
On tap at piece obviously... Pours. Hazy cidery brown hue and topped with a wispy white head... Aroma of pungent juicy citrus and tropical fruit forward hops. Clean and assertive with a pale malt base which basically fall to the wayside... Herbal citrusy hop assault upfront in the flavor. Somewhat clean but has a somewhat touch of buttery note that surfaces midway through and continues on late which eventually fades and continues in with a tropical fruit focus. Medium to just shy of that body-wise. Still fairly pungent and juicy.
