I am not too keen on the sweet Belgian styles, but I am always up to try something new. Although it wasnt my style, I think I can admit that this was a well made beer. The darkness might have saved it, giving it some roasted smoothness that balanced the sweetness. Not much of a smell, but it did come in a cool snifter tulip glass.

Snagged some from Crizay’s glass. Pours black with a very light tan head. Smell is roasty, full of licorice and belgian yeast. Taste is lightly tart and raosty chocolate and licorice with a strong belgian character. Flavorful, just not my style.

Pour was very dark, black, tan head. Aroma of dark fruits. Flavor was nice blend of chocolate and fruit. Almost reminiscent of chocolate covered bananas. This was a great dark belgian and my favorite of the Piece brews I tried.

Almost pitch black, small head. Aroma is Raisenettes. Flavor is mostly Belgian yeast (Chimay?) with some banana esters. Lots of chocolate malts and pretty dn hoppy for a Belgian Ale.

It is nice to see Piece producing more beers like this (seems like the expansion is helping a bit). Pours black with a thin tan head. Still smells a little like a belgian. Nice dark fruit flavor with a little chocolate in there as well. Well done.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2008 on tap, pours black with a tan head that had trouble fully forming due to overcarbonation. you can see it fizz like soda! although a nice head forms around the rim. a big licorice and dark fruity aroma with subtle cold coffee notes. a big dark fruit estery profile with some chooclate and bready notes. this is extremely tasty. only knock is that its over carbonated and a tad thin.
