Draft @ Delirium, Brussels.

750 c&c from the Natomas BevMo. Pours dark copper with a creamy beige head. Aroma is mild caramel with some sort of nutty aspect. Med body. It’s pretty flavorful. First impression is Belgian. There’s caramel, but there’s some non-dark fruit. Mildly spicey. Having recently encountered chestnuts frequently, and noting "chestnut flour" on the label, I’m opining that the mysterious aspect is chestnut. There’s even an oily impression. Light but it’s there. Definitely more dry than sweet. Certainly an unusual ale.

Translucent brown/yellow with an average sized bubbly white head. Aroma is very bready and heavy. Notes of cookies, toasted malts, cereal grains, and some sweet caramel. Flavor is chewy - toasted dough, nuts, and some light fruits in the finish.

Draft at rnh with streets and baron. Pours a clear amber bodywith white lacing. Aroma is light and lagery. Mouthfeel is light with notes of light spice, malts, sugar, and really plain.

750 ml bottle. Sweet nutty aroma with caramel malts with just a hint of spice. Pours amber with a thin head that dissipates quickly. Caramel upfront with sweet malts and a nuttiness and a very mild spiciness and very dry finish. In the beginning it drinks like an ale but the finish reminds of a lager.

750 mL bottle. Pours an orange brown with khaki head. The aroma is nutty malt with some toast and a hint of orange. The flavor is toasty malt with a slight fruity touch. It gets quite nutty in the finish with a little bit of a yeast kick. Not too bad, but a little bit on the boring side.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle. Oddly enough, this says biere de noel on the front, but talks about chestnuts like the strong says in the database. So here we go. It pours hazy reddish brown with a small, off-white head. The nose is putrid and smells like rotting nuts. The taste is equally as foul with some caramel malt and rotting vegetation. I regrettably took another sip just to confirm and then poured the whole bottle down the drain. I can only hope this bottle was off, but based on the other Pietra beers I’ve had, I am not holding out hope. Not recommended.
