Bottle 75cl, a clear amber beer with medium head. Nose is nutty and on toasted grain. Aroma is on toasted grains and cereals, very sweet, light spices, not that complex, nice malty side, low hops, a bit too sweet to be really drinkable, ok beer.

Tap at Gingerman. Pours a clear auburn with standard white head. Aroma is primarily toasted sesame seeds and cereal. Buttery flavor, almost popcorn-like, with notes of toast, simcoe, and roasted malt. I keep going back to "toasty." A touch too buttery.

750 ml. Clear brew, with a tidy little cover of creamy bubbles and the right look for a darkish lager. Nose is earthy cereal and dry grass, with a honey-medicinal note. Flavor is similar, with bittersweet nutmeat on the finish. Mouthfeel is airy-light and mostly smooth. Light-medium body is to the dry side. Odd tasting brew, but develops a nice aftertaste after a bit.

750ml bottle - A little bit pricey, but when looking at this beer from top to bottom its pretty tasty. The focus is centered on the malts, which is fine and whats produced is a caramel and toasted malts. Its probably even a little plain, but theres no flaws noticeable and Im sure a little bit fresher this might be really good. Now, its serviceable albeit overpriced.

750 ml. Deep, clear amber body. Fizzy, off-white head. Malty aroma of toasted grain, nuts and hints of caramel, spice, earthiness, wood along with some vegetal notes. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. The taste on the front of the tongue is earthy and husky. the finish leaves tastes of wood, caramel, raw grain. Plenty of bitterness, but the malts are dominant throughout.

750 cc from Wegmans Collegeville. Pours dark brown, clear, with 1-finger frothy tan head. Nose is earthy vienna malt, brown sugar, mild hops. Tastes of earthy brown sugar, vienna malt, mild hops. Not terribly complex, but not bad.

Bizarre. Finding the Christmas 2013 draft at Eulogy in July 2014 - so way past its due date. Tastes really boozy for only 7% ABV. Cloudy blonde caramel pour with a frothy white head that has reasonably lasting foam. Some lace. Feels like a full spicy blonde, but the spices are not as complex (cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg) as one would hope for in a noel beer. Body is somewhat thin but has a bit of creaminess in the finish. Possible there was a more complicated beer there that thinned away over time, but given this pour alone it seems way too simple. Classic flavors but nothing extraordinary. Obviously its past its prime and - at least on draft - did not improve with age.

Whole Foods, Bowery sampling (as Pietra Winter, but it seems to be the same beer, especially because of all the references to chestnuts): Pours an amber color with white head. Aroma is slightly floral, with some roasted malts. Body is pretty light. Taste is kind of minimal. I get a bit of chestnut, as some other people opined, but not too much. Ive brewed beer with chestnut myself before and it is hard to get the taste into it.
