3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brown 33cl bottle (6%): best before the end of 2010, drank Jan 2009.
Poured into a Corsendonk tulip glass. I poured aggresivley knowing the glass would hold any head that developed. A large white head did in fact arrive, it quickly sank to half size then sat for a while.
The body was clean, clear and bright, light amber in colour and looked good.
The aroma was a little sweet, toffee and molasses, no hint of the Chestnuts mentioned on the label (they didn’t turn up in the taste either).
The taste was OK, again fairly sweet but with a drying aftertaste. Reminded me of a Bitter, in the UK Bitter Ale meaning, not a bitter taste. Strange for a french Lager based beer but true in my opinion. If I hadn’t started burping half waay through the drink, I would have forgooten it was in fact a lager!
The alcohol isn’t hidden too well, but maybe it isn’t supposed to be?
Little too much carbonisation, hence the burps, otherwise a pleasant drink.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear deep yellow to amber appearance with medium head. Malty, hoppy and nutty aroma. Not much sweetness, decent bitter finish, however not a typical Amber Lager style.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
(Bottle) Golden amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, spicy nose with notes of rye bread, treacle, chestnuts, dried fruit and orange peel. Malty spicy taste with crisp-bread, dried fruit, orange peel, chestnuts, brown sugar and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Decent vienna style lager with a gentle chestnut character. Nothing exceptional, but quite enjoyable.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. The smell is grainy, a bit of caramel, some fruit. The taste is fruity, nutty, grainy with a bit of caramel and fruit ending dry. The body is light/medium, a bit slick with a full, finely structured carbonation. This one surprised me...a pretty decent beer in a .5 litre can.

Thanks to ThirstyBird! Golden colour. The beer starts malty and fullbodied, a bit sweet. The mainpart is nicely fruity-sweetish, probably due to the chestnuts. Nice earthy-woody flavour. The aftertaste is long, a bit bitter, sweetish-malty with the chestnut-flavour below all!
--> nice combination!

Picked up a 750 cork top from Marty’s...a lot of pomp and circumstance for a Vienna lager claiming to be amber ale. Cool malty aroma with a hint of hop and spice. Medium orange color, nearly clear. Pretty unique flavor actually. Kind of a sweet nutty profile with weird yeast. What do you call nuts on your chest...you know where this is going. Unfortunately the body is not substantial and needs to be crisper for it’s weight. Glad I tried it though.

Bottle at Quilon. Nice full brown amber colour. Malty smell. Unusual flavour, I guess it must be the chestnuts but I’d never have guessed if I didn’t know. Slightly nutty, malty, sweetish. Not bad, interesting, not amazing.
