ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jun 30, 2006 Bottle poured a lightly hazy golden amber with a small diminishing ivory head. Aromas of earthiness, grapefruit rind, carmel and light pine. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of earthiness, light pine, some bitter citrus and some carmel notes with a smooth lingering moderately bitter finish. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Jun 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours weak amber, very translucent. Aroma is weak grapefruit. Not looking/smelling good. Lively carbonation. Flavor is surprisingly strong, with a nice bitter rush of grapefruit followed by stinging hops and a touch of orange. Palate is coating. Nice beer; don’t judge a book by its cover (or smell), I guess. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 28, 2006 Bottle. Aroma was of malt and barley more crop driven than hop diven I gues you can say. Amber/copper body wit off white head. Has some lemon and somewhat soapy flavor. Hevier bodied not cool and crisp like most ipa’s I’ve had. Sight dry bitter some citrus on palate. Decent beer. Thaichile (599), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Jun 17, 2006 Bottle. Pours amber with a film of a head. Nose is totally hop laden. I thought this was a complete hop bomb. Piney, resiny and citric. It is bone dry in its start to finish bitterness. If you are a true hophead, you will love this one. I prefer somewhat more balance, but it’s fine for the style. Thanks to wohlfs for the bottle. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jun 14, 2006 (12oz bottle) Medium off-white head atop a clear amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit, some caramel, light floral, lemon. Taste is medium sweet, grapefuit, some wood, caramel, toast, light lemon, peach. Moderate bitterness. Soft medium body with some chewiness. Tasty, and a fine example of the style. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA May 29, 2006 Bottled. Pours an orange amber with a thin but lacy white head, The aroma is oranges and flowers. The taste starts lightly sweet with a refreshing blend of malt and citrus with a piney contribution from the hops. Crisp, clean sightly bitter finish. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA May 21, 2006 Picked up a six-pack on a recent trip to oregon. Pours hazy amber with thin head. A bit of yeast at the bottom proves this to be bottle conditioned. Aroma is very freshly hoppy. Contributions from the hops are zesy lemon, citrus, and pine. I’m curious what variety of hops they use. Sweet tasting, medium bodied, very smooth, and nice bitter finish. Superb ipa. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA May 13, 2006 From a 12oz. long neck brown bottle with an unnotched best before date on the right side of label.
Made a good appearance, poured a chill hazy orange hued copper with a foamy pale tannish/whitish head that settled into a thin foamy lacing, good carbonation.
Had a leafy floral hop nose with a roasted maltiness, grain bready.
A crisp, creamy smooth medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability.
Sharp bitterness at first, leafy, a bit citric and floral, that turns into a smooth rolling bitterness, a balancing roasted rye maltiness, a little fruitiness at the end and a sweet rye bready and leafy hop finish with a soft hop bitterness lingering in the palate.
A really nice and tasty AIPA from Pike, makes me want to try more beers from this brewery.
