2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 boccefloyd (101) - Bon Air, Virginia, USA - DEC 24, 2010
I’m not getting this one just as I’ve not gotten other Pike offerings. Pours a vice clear golden with a goos off-white head. Stays and lingers. THe aroma is pretty standard, pine and grapefruit over caramel. In the mouth is where things start to fall apart. Medium body with some bitterness but sweet on the finish. A harbinger of things to come. On the tongue, it is sweet all the way through the finish. There is a small amount of bitter along the way but not much. I think I’ll be dumping this glass and the rest of the bottle.

Bottle (copyright by jonas!): Hazy, amber coloured, big rocky off-white head; solid citrussy and piney nose; solid dryish bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; dry citrussy-hoppy finish with a balancing caramalty sweetness, drying out in the aftertaste. Great stuff....
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 ryan (2959) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - DEC 15, 2010
Fruity and floral hop nose, but unfortunately there’s also a lot of caramel and ice tea in there too, which is very disappointing. Taste is about what you’d expect from the aroma. Lots of caramel and toffee, lots of ice tea, and a bit of cardboard. The hops are there in the middle with herbal and floral notes, but it’s not nearly enough to save this one. Finishes with a vegetal bitter note.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MoritzF (7137) - Bochum, GERMANY - DEC 8, 2010
(bottle, 35.5cl) Hazy, amber colour with a huge and slightly beige foamy head. Fruit-accented hoppy aroma with notes of citrus, oranges and apricots, accompanied a mildly sweet malty and slightly spicy (liquorice) touch. Bitter and discreetly sweet flavour, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Mildly sweet malty start, drying out towards the fruity and spicy hoppy finish. Balanced and very pleasant IPA. 08.XII.10
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 RobBestwick (583) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 4, 2010
Bottled. Highly hopped aroma with orange and citrus notes. Cloudy copper in colour with a small off-white head. Very sharp and hoppy flavour with strong citrus flavours and a lingering bitter finish. Great IPA.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JCB (2911) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - NOV 30, 2010
Bomber from Total Wine, Durham. Cloudy gold pour with a really nice sticky head, a lasting foam layer. Sweet malts more prominent in the nose than anticipated, with fainter floral hops, ever so slightly dry. Medium mouthfeel, sort of creamy. Flavors are predominantly grassy and there’s little of the fullness hinted in the aroma. Could be that this one had some age on it (Pike has just started to show up here, and who knows if this case had been sitting for a while), but I’d wanted more of a hop presence for sure and more of a bitter, dry finish. Decent.
