Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

IBU 27. Poured into a frozen mug. Beautiful appearance. Copper red. Tiny bubbles. Medium head. No real aroma that stands out at all. Taste lightly hopped, malty and sweet. Average beer at best. Pike makes a much better IPA ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong caramel taste and dry finish. It’s a good scotch ale but would benefit from a bit more body

Served on tap at Pike Brewing. Copper red color with a large dirty white head. Sweet malt aroma. Medium Body. Flavor is a mix of scotch, grain and hops. None of which are overwhelming. Carbonation with a clean finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma carries some malt and a hint of peat. Unfortunately that is all overpowered by a bitter, almost rancid flavor. Not good at all.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a beer can glass on 06.13.14. A: Very thin tan mess of a head. It recedes from splotches to nothing. Cloudy brown body. S: Very faint caramel and earthiness. T: Follows the nose. M: It feels flat even though there are some bubbles on the tongue. O: This looked and tasted like flavored water. I don’t have an idea of how old it was since they don’t date their bottles, but this is the 3rd Pike beer out of 3 that have been like this. They’re local, so this should not be a problem as much as it is. Drain pour.

Tap at Pike - lighty hazy dark copper - rich maltiness (toffee) is complimented by some plumy sweetness, a bit of bread pudding - some balancing leafy bitterness - lingering toffee finish - nice.
