22 oz bottle

Thanks to malachi for shipping me a bottle of this in a recent shipment. The rest have gone into the cellar but this one was too hard to resist cracking open. Not only does Pike have an interesting location on the waterfront they make some interesting beers as well. This particular one is no slouch; if all tripels were made to this standard the world would be a better place.

Aroma / Appearance - A large bleached white head grew quickly before settling into the transparent cider colored body beneath. Apple sauce, honey, butterscotch and pears blended into a fruity sweet harmony. The overall impression was almost like a sweet white dessert wine.

Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel was a bit thicker than a dessert wine but the taste was not. Pear, apples and honeycomb merged into a fruity trio that pleased both the tongue and throat. The dry slightly bitter finish was not unlike rye toast. It doesn’t really stand out from the true Belgian beers but for an American take on the style it is well made.

V - clear ultra light pale yellow.with lacy foamy white head
A - strong aroma of citrus and grassy wheat with some orange peel and banana spices as well. Touch too citrusy to warrant anything more than a good rating.
T - good balance of citrus and banana spices. bit watered down per usual Pike.
P - smooth with a late alcohol kick. Very pleasant.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Fruity malty yeasty aroma with hints of citrus. Warming malty and slightly yeasty spicy flavor with some citrus hints. Has a fruity malty spicy warming yeasty finish.

Bottle: Crisp golden color with a nice puffy white head. The nose is citrusy with some nice lemon and peppery notes, ample yeast esters and a candy sugar snap. The flavor is balanced; moderate body with a doughy pale malt note. Finishes yeasty. Nice earthiness and a light bubblegum note in the tail. Good.

Cracker, yeasty dough, musty + earthy aroma. Kefir lime leaves, orange, coriander, vanilla. Overly ripe fruit (cantelope, pear). Metallic, anise flavor front and mid. Interesting hops bitter sneaks in there for a moment. Clean yeasty finish. The sour metallic thing dosn’t turn me on. Alchohol comes thru in mid. I agree with the peppery flavor observation of past posters, but don’t see the peach so much. The spicy yeast taste really dominates. Palate is mediocre. Medium bodied, lively soapy texture. Dosn’t quite cut it next to imported belgians.
