COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

Bottle - 2006 Vintage: Cloudy copper color with not much of a head. The aroma is dominated by hops and alcohol. The flavor is hoppy with sweet tones of alcohol followed by a bitter aftertaste and chewable vitamin C flavors and mild shoe polish. Enjoyable! Thanks BückDich for hooking me up with this rare Pike Brewery special.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy amber with a nice white creamy head. Spotty lacing. Sweet caramel nutty brown sugar aroma. Some alcohol notes as well. Flavor is nutty, smooth sweet, and the ABV is apparent. Plenty of bitter piney hops. Lingering bitter bite. Thanks Jordan

Bottle - 2006 Vintage: Orange amber color, light head and lacing. The nose is fresh yet vegetal with lots of hops and a strong alcohol and peaty notes. The flavor is strong, fairly unrounded and boring with a spicy scotchy note, excess bitterness and alcohol. The finish is strong and scratchy, lacking a smooth character. They should have held onto this in the brewery for another year until it was ready. Young, brash and agressive.

Bottle: Pours a clear orange/amber with a smaller white head that disapated quickly. Damn near bronze, just like the description! Fruity, hoppy aroma with hints of alcohol. Some citrus. Taste is citrus hops with fruits, caramel, and some malt presence. Smooth, warming finish. Quite good. Thanks to Jordan for sharing.

Bottle - 2006 vintage. Pours a hazy light copper color with a nice white head on top. Aroma is mostly full of malts with caramel and fruit taking dominance. Hints of hops and alcohol are in the aroma also. Flavor is mixing between fresh hops and caramel. The alcohol is pretty well hidden but hints of it do sneak in. The beer finishes the palate off with a dry bitterness. Definitely a young tasting beer, could definitely use some age. I will try again in 6 months and see where it is then.

12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 1998 vintage. Poured a clear copper color with an off white head. The aroma was sweet and a bit fruity. Smells like a Barleywine. This beer has a nice Barleywine flavor too with a dark fruitiness, caramel malts and a hint of pine hops. The flavor seems to end with a bit of a woody character.

Bottle (1998): Caramel in color, hazy, small off-white fizzy head, spotty lacing.   Sweet caramel malt nose... not much hop presence after all these years.   Sweet malty start, caramel and toffee, with a noticable floral like back end.   Seems to have mellowed out over the years, but it has held up rather well.   I wish I had more of this!   Medium to full body and mouthfeel.   Clean finish, lingering sweetness with a touch of that floral aspect.   Perhaps even a bit citrusy as well.   Quite tasty!   Oh how I love these impromptu back room tastings at Bottleworks.

(bottle conditioned vintage 1998). Deep beautiful copper color, cloudy despite careful decanting. Huge, thick, vinuous mouthfeel with faint carbonation. Nice estery fruit front end with an engaging long, drawn-out strongly bitter finish. A little too bitter to be well-balanced, despite the enormous malt. No phenolic or smoky undertones in my glass, although a nice sherry-like oxidation was present, though not overly distracting. A nice beer overall that says "let's have another!"

Draft: Gorgeous sparkling amber color. Alcohol nose. Malt alcohol taste. Rough around the edges, needs to mellow.
