4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark amber color with a thick off white head. The nose is loaded with dates and figs and brooding plummy aromatics. The palate is layered with balanced dark fruit and malt characteristics while the hops lay in perfect balance creating a mouthfeel and series of flavors that you wish would never end. Stellar Barleywine.

22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours deep brown with a lacy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, and grainy malts, hints of chocolate, and a lot of citrusy/floral hops. Flavor strong on malts and hops. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Jan. 2012. Bottle purchased in 2009 from Kensington Wine Market Calgary. Pours brown with a filmy off white head. Aromas of malt, spice and some nutmeg I think. Maybe not nutmeg, but something similar. Taste is very malty, some boozy notes. Sweet bitterness hangs on. I get some spice too. The body has become nearly flat with its age. Still very good, i would suggest hanging on to a few and sample one every year.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Thanks to nmann08 for sharing this bottle last weekend. Served in a Cigar City snifter.
Pours a moderate amber-brown color with a thin off-white head. Thin cap and collar. The nose carries some toffee, caramel, and light fruits. A bit oxidized. The flavor brings through a slight bitterness in addition to sweet malts and fruit. Medium body with good carbonation. Somewhat-dry finish. Just okay.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
I believe this is the strongest beer Pike has to offer. Not bad at all, and better than most every other Barley Wine I had tried.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle pours a hazy, copper amber with some spitty white head. Nose is piney, orange, pine needles, metal, honey, a little grapefruit. Flavor is mostly sweet, crackers, metal, grapefruit, white grape, lemons, oranges, candy. Medium bodied, dry finish. Seems to be in a weird phase where the best parts have aged out and better parts have yet to age in.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
2009 Vintage. Pours murky dark brown, rusted copper with minimal off-white, tan fizz. Smells malted, fruity, hoppy, and mildly smoky. Taste is first very bitter and then some mild fruit-like flavors with some smokiness. Full-bodied with a smooth body and mild mouth-carbonation, Pike Old Bawdy Barley Wine (2009) finishes with some dry fruitiness.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz. bottle, 2010. Pours a nice hazy reddish brown, one finger of tan head, minimal lacing. Complex aroma, a little alcohol, malty sweet, molasses, figs, dates, and a little toffee. Medium-to-thin mouthfeel. Rich flavor - molasses, brown sugar, raisins, spices, lingering caramel and toffee with mild bitterness. Very well-balanced and smooth for a big beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2012 2011: Aroma from the bottle leans towards old style barley wine with some pine notes and seems quite a bit like Hair of the Dog Doggie Claws. Pours clear red amber with a nice head that dissipates quickly. Caramel & candi sugar, plus hops on the finish. Very nice mouth feel. This is 1 of the better batches I?ve had. Tasted at 55 degrees fahrenheit from the bottle. Unreal aged.
