COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

22 ounce bottle that poured an amber color aromas of pine, malt, citrus, and caramel. Flavors are the same, pine, malt, caramel, citrus, and some booze in the aftertaste. Nice little barleywine.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of bread and roasted, light to moderate cooked orange for the hops, leather for the yeast, with raisin, date, brown sugar and a hint of vinegar in the background. Head is small, frothy with some bigger bubbles, light beige with some slippery lacing and good legs. Color is clear deep mahogany. Flavor starts moderately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately sweet and acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a soft to lively carbonation. A little out of balance for a Barley Wine, but it does have some nice aromas and the flavor while robust seems a little contrary to the style.

2011 vintage. Sampled on 4/12/2012. This barley wine pours a slightly hazy dark brown color from a 22 oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and sweet, bready and biscuit. A medium to full bodied Barley Wine. The malts are caramel, bready and sweet. The hops are piney, earthy and herbal. Decent carbonation. Very malt forward Barley Wine, yet there are some piney hops in the background. I am not sure that the combination works well here. It comes off a little astringent and the hop bitterness seems to be combating the malt sweetness instead of contrasting it. The aftertaste is more like an IPA and it is kind of throwing me off. Not sure if I like this one. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter.

huge 22oz 2011 bottle claiming 9.9%. pours a clear amber with a small, stable, beige head. caramel and big citrus/pine nose. american, west coast, style BW. in the tradition of big foot only slightly less hoppy and slightly more malty. piney and citrusy up front, then turning sweet with caramel and toast, but not quite smoky. abv is tame for the most part. a real good one from pike, if not their best work! awesome BW!

The aroma is sweet and hoppy with brown sugar and metallic hops. The appearance is amber with a small head. The taste is like the aroma with an astringent finish. The palate is smooth. Overall its not that great of a beer but not undrinkable.

Dark amber color with a thick off white head. The nose is loaded with dates and figs and brooding plummy aromatics. The palate is layered with balanced dark fruit and malt characteristics while the hops lay in perfect balance creating a mouthfeel and series of flavors that you wish would never end. Stellar Barleywine.

22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours deep brown with a lacy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, and grainy malts, hints of chocolate, and a lot of citrusy/floral hops. Flavor strong on malts and hops. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

Jan. 2012. Bottle purchased in 2009 from Kensington Wine Market Calgary. Pours brown with a filmy off white head. Aromas of malt, spice and some nutmeg I think. Maybe not nutmeg, but something similar. Taste is very malty, some boozy notes. Sweet bitterness hangs on. I get some spice too. The body has become nearly flat with its age. Still very good, i would suggest hanging on to a few and sample one every year.
