1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 jgb9348 (3369) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAY 27, 2010
Nice super deep (for the style) hazy amber coloured body with a thinish and relatively late developing tan head. Aroma of hops, yeast, light malt, caramel and a bit of bread and a hint of citrus. Not much in the nose. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt up front with some hops, a touch of fruit and some mild sugars. Aftertaste shows almost no hops, almost no malt and barely anything else of interest. Overall, a pretty bad beer - I was expecting much better, especially in this style and from the West Coast. Definitely in the bottom tier for this brewery and the style, not really worth trying, especially if you are thinking this is rare (if you are on the East Coast) and are happy that a specific store is now stocking Pike beers. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased on 25-May-2010 (two days ago) at Total Wine in McLean, Virginia sampled at home on 27-May-2010 in Washington.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - MAY 16, 2010
Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling.
It pours a deep amber color with a small, foamy, off white head. The nose is faint with notes of toast and stale hops. The flavor has notes of toast, cracker, and a dull bitterness. I think this bottle may be past it’s prime. Light to medium body with an unremarkable mouthfeel and a clean finish. Completely passable, especially in the APA category.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a light amber. Nose is very sweet and fruity - mostly cherries, some bubblegum. Taste is quite sweet with some earthy malts, more cherries. A bit too sweet and not terribly interesting otherwise.
