3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 SamGamgee (2451) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - JUL 25, 2009
22oz bottle. Hazy amber with a lasting medium white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted grain, fruity yeastiness, melon, and a light touch of citrus. Malty flavor with some toastiness and a bitter finish with some citrus. Fruity and lightly yeasty. medium bodied with medium carbonation. Decent balance but a bit bland.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 nuplastikk (2445) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 9, 2011
22oz bomber. Unfiltered dull orange-brown. Thin, oily head. Malt centered aroma, sweet, nutty, some orange. Amber malt shines up front, but is sort of balanced out by some mild hops. Watery and one dimensional, this is not a beer I can see anyone recommending. Drinkable I suppose, but not too impressive.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20 obguthr (2385) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - JUL 9, 2010
Honey and tea aroma, grainy and with good strength. Clear copper, thin head, some lacing. Tons of honey from start to finish. Malty and grainy, ending with hay. A bit of a metallic edge. Powdery mouthfeel. Distinctive and flavorful. Refreshing EPA, not APA, IMVHO.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Indra (2323) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - OCT 9, 2007
Draft at the brewpub. Very lightly sweet and toasty caramel aroma, some metallic and fruity hop in the background, sweetness is pretty gentle, though, mostly toasted malts come through. Some honey appears here as it warms. Clear light amber color with a lasting, fine eggshell head and very nice lacing. Flavor is malty and fruity as well, drying and lightly astringent, with more light caramel, nuttiness and some faintly citric hop. Light, effervescent mouthfeel, body is light-medium. Better than some Amber-style Pales due to the balance, which factors in the hops somewhat.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Schroppfy (2319) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - MAY 6, 2002
Exemplifies the APA style, in my opinion, especially the west coast thang. Nice aroma, well banaced in malt depth and hops. Not dry hoppped, but nice and deep and alive. Body is nice and firm for the style, and excellent use of the bittering hops. I’m such an APA slut.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 illinismitty (2239) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 20, 2007
Draft at brewpub. Pours copper with a creamy off white retentive head. Aroma is so faint that it was hard for me to pull out any distinct aromas. Medium bodied but slightly thin on texture. Mild caramel malt and fruity flavor countered by a bitter dry finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 curly (2201) - Seattle (Newcastle), Washington, USA - MAY 30, 2010
Pours clear amber with a small beige head that fades. Aroma of apple, floral and citrus hops, lemons, grass, wet grains. Taste is mild, also lemony, light bitterness. Medium light body, soft carbonation.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 scrizzz (2183) - Bothell, Washington, USA - JUN 18, 2009
Clear copper, small white head. Jasmine aroma, little caramel too. Medium-full body, malt-forward. Finally a PNW pale that isn’t hoppy. Not to say I don’t like that. Not too much caramel or body and it’s not supposed to. Good times.
