COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Check out Pike’s new seasonal Post Alley Porter named for the 104 year old “thoroughfare,” a brick paved alley from the waterfront with a steepness that would allow a dray carrying a wagon-load of fish up to the Pike Place Public Market. The main entrance to the Pike Brewery is on Post Alley. The beer is a robust porter, smooth with a slight sweetness and a velvety head. Look for Pike Post Alley Porter on draft and in 22 oz bottles. Cheers!

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Pours dark brown but looks near black and opaque in the glass. The small head soon reduces to a durable ring, leaving just a few spots of lacing. Aroma: a mix of pleasant dark roasted grains and mildly unpleasant but very faint note of something akin to balsamic vinegar. Flavor: better than the aroma. Very good and near equal bitter-sweet balance but lacks complexity. Feel; Medium-light carbonation; medium-light body.

Bottle from Total Wine. Brown/black with lasting tan head and lace. Roasty woody chocolate earthy spicy aroma with hints of fruity booze. Roasty fruity plummy coffee and chocolate sweetness with some roasty bitterness and smokey ashy finish. Medium body. Fairly creamy. Too fruity for my tastes. BUt still good.

Appearance: very dark brown with a thick, creamy medium tan head, and nice concentric rings of lace. Aroma: roasty nose, with nice dark chocolate and slightly burnt barley notes, with a hint of coffee and pine. Taste: as the aroma indicates, with a bit of underlying chocolate and vanilla sweetness. Finish: lingering roast, bittersweet dark chocolate and pine. Notes: Great porter. Smooth, slightly dry, roasty, bittersweet, and well-balanced. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Beer Revolution. Pours dark brown with a thick tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a medium-bodied chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a dry finish.

Black pour under a lasting light tan head. The nose smells of biscuity cocoa, light tobacco notes and a hint of coffee. The flavor is a bit light but subtly roasty and a little sweet with some dark earthy chocolaty tones. Pretty nice but just a little too light. And I love how it smells almost exactly like the mustache wax from Men’s Face Stuff.

Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is creamy and body is full. Roasted malt, assertive hop bitterness lingers throughout to the finish. Mostly dry middle and finish. Overall mostly bitter, but also highly malty full bodied porter. Very flavorful and we’ll done.

Bottle from Total Wine McLean. Pours Black with a thin khaki head. leaves a lot of lacing. Not a lot going on on the nose. Has some roastiness and dryness on the tongue which makes it fairly balanced. finishes clean. Not blowing my socks off but quaffable nonetheless.

Thin porter that lacks depth in every area! Pours dark w/ some reddish hues & has a decent tan head that leaves spotty lacing. The aroma is a light chocolate roast. The taste is also light. Very faint chocolate upfront & finishes somewhat roasty. Nothing memorable here!
