Check out Pike’s new seasonal Post Alley Porter named for the 104 year old “thoroughfare,” a brick paved alley from the waterfront with a steepness that would allow a dray carrying a wagon-load of fish up to the Pike Place Public Market. The main entrance to the Pike Brewery is on Post Alley. The beer is a robust porter, smooth with a slight sweetness and a velvety head. Look for Pike Post Alley Porter on draft and in 22 oz bottles. Cheers!

Bomber from Malt and Vine. 6.0% ABV; 32 IBU. Pours very dark brown with a foamy 3 finger dark beige head. Aroma is a watery sort of chocolate - hints of sour over dark roast malt. Med body. A very decent non-imperialized porter. Imperialization is starting to slant my ratings towards high ABV. Inappropriate in this instance. It’s a damn good plain porter. Chocolate and dark roast malt thru into the finish.

Bomber from Total Wine South Richmond. Pours a very dark brown color with a large brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, mild roast. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, nutty notes, mild hops. Thin-medium bodied. A bit too sweet, but overall solid.

Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. Brownish-black pour with a medium light tan head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and mild coffee. Light to medium body with a sweet roasty malt character and notes of coffee and chocolate. The finish is sweet with a toasted malt aftertaste. Decent all around.

Aroma is roasted with coffee and chocolate. Flavour is slightly sour with licorice and some coffee. A bit straightforward but nice.

Draft at the brewery. Pours black with a dense and creamy dark tan head. Mild chocolatey roasty nose. Creamy thick body. Soft carb. Roasty, chocolatey mid palate. Long dry finish. Very approachable and enjoyable, but pretty dialed back.

Bottle:   Certainly a dark porter, moderate to large finely bubbled head, tannish, with nice lacing.   Soft roast, faint lactose, not much hop presense.   First thing is this is somewhat watery, not very big.   Not roasty, not malty, not hoppy, not bitter.   Very average, light, and pedestrian.   Smells a little better, but doesn’t deliver.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but on the thin side.   Lackluster finish.   Clean, but the roast is now minor, hops are nearly non-existant, and just overall a lighter example.   I really thought this was going to be a nice example given its color, but obviously color isn’t everything.

Black color with tan head. Dark roast, chocolate, pale malt aromas. Smooth medium body. Medium roast malt flavors with dry chocolate, and a mild ashy, tobacco astringencey--almost good
