COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Assertive hoppy & floral west coast style IPA. Pike Space Needle Golden IPA is generously brewed with five varieties of Yakima Valley aroma and flavoring hops. We then dry hop it with whole-cone Columbus, Summit and Centennial hops, which impart a floral aroma that has catapulted this beer to one of Pike Brewing customer’s favorite IPA’s. This beer won a blind tasting competition to be the commemorative beer for the Space Needle’s 50th anniversary in 2012. It was so well received that it has been added to Pike’s year round collection. It was 1962 and the world came to Seattle for the World’s Fair and its futuristic symbol, the Space Needle. The beer served at the ‘62 World’s Fair? Likely nothing at all like this west coast style IPA, generously brewed with five varieties of Yakima Valley aroma and flavoring hops. We then dry hop it with whole-cone Columbus, Summit and Centennial hops, which impart a floral aroma that has catapulted this beer to one of Pike Brewing customer’s favorite IPA’s.

Gold pour, white head. Lots of sweet tropical fruit notes, grassy hops, citrus hops, lightly bitter but not overly malty by any stretch. Nice.

Tampa, Fl - Total Wine, 22 oz bomber. Murky dark orange pour, sticky off-white head with nice lacing. Aromatic spruce aroma with a hint of floral notes. Full bodied bitter citrus flavor, some malty bready notes, a hint of apricot frutiness, some spearmint back end notes. Mouthfeel is tangy and thick with just the right amount of spritz. Pretty solid treat!

This is a great all-around IPA. Unusual, it is a little better at a medium cold temperature and gets a little malty as it warms. Very sweet not floral.

Nice but nothing special. Light in color with a minimal head. Thinnner in the mouth than expected, Some harshness in the hop flavor.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head. Hoppy aroma of citrus, earthy and floral with some light caramel. Spicy/floral hop flavor with some light caramel. Citrus and earthy hops midway through. Moderately bitter finish with citrus/earthy/floral hop notes.

Exceeded my expecatations. This was an assertive, well balanced IPA. Pours light orange with good head. Hoppy, bitter nose. Piney and refreshing with a light body and clean finish. Good IPA.

JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 6, 2013
Bomber from Total Wine, Durham. Medium bodied pour, bright gold with modest carbonation. Nose of grassy hops and a touch of fruitiness, fairly typical of Pike’s solid IPAs. Palate is a bit overly smooth, at times even waxy, but there’s a lingering prickliness on the tongue and a dry finish to compensate for this a bit. Flavors are a bit disjointed, with candy sweetness and super grassy bitters never quite finding a compromise. Decent.

22 ounce bottle - $6.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Heavily hazed, pale golden body with an initially lofty, but not very long-lived, off-white head.

Smell: Moist, juicy, pithy citrus rinds with a backing of white pine (and a bit of cracked pepper) over restrained malt notes really just giving a single note of biscuits sans biscuit tops.

Taste: Modest maltiness, just a bit of biscuit innards, really. Very low sweetness. Sharp, citric hops with orange oil and white grapefruit, but also some ribbons of fresh, resinous pine. Sprinkling of pepper, too. Maybe even a thin hint of peach as well. Displays a full bitterness which rolls along unopposed until the dry with a soft, sleekly textured finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A fine IPA, in that is was fine.
