In short: A sweet big brown ale of some kind. Good even if a bit “off”
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed relatively fresh about 3 months after purchase.
The look: Clear dark ruby boddy topped by a small long-lasting white head
In long: The light nose is toasted bread, cranberries and a little earthy. Taste is caramel, liquorice candy (red and black), almonds, a bit sweet, leafy hops, molasses, citrus fruits, dirt, red meat. Lively body despite a soft carbonation. Came through as some kind of bastard cross between a light barley-wine and a brown ale. Most of it was ok except for that meaty flavour that bothered me a bit. I liked it even if it was a bit strange. Pike Pub & Brewery is like the Dalai Lama and David Letterman comedy duo. They make a strange tandem.

This beer is hard to classify. Strong, with a complex flavor, owing to the coriander, wheat and belgian yeast. One of the better ales on tap at the pub.

Bottle... Poured deep brownish/ruby with a thick, light, tan head. Aroma of smoked malts. This one appeared light to me. Dark malt and nutty flavors, typical of a brown ale. A light hop character with a mild touch of sweet, earthy qualities and a hearty, smoked meat flavor. I’d describe it as a naked barleywine.

A nice malt aroma, a little sugary. This seems like a belgian dubbel with the candy sugar. Sweet, not too heavy. This may be their best that I’ve had.

Pours a deep red brown with a beige head and lots of lace. Very little aroma, citrus, wheat, bubblegum, coriander. Hefe profile carries through with tastes of wheat, candy sugar, and some banana. Not impressed.

I I was hoping this would be a lovely Belgian double, but found it to be a dry over malted alcohol bomb with not much else going on. A dark brown color with a tan bubbly head. An unimpressive beer. Maybe just not right in the lineup of beers that I was sampling at that time.
