thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 6, 2007 This draft brew from the Oregon Brewers festival poured a head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-opaque dark red brown colored body. The mild aroma was malty and sweet. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of malt mild hops sweet brown malt and mild nut. A decent one that I would consider buying again. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 30, 2007 Draught sample. Mild fruity sweet aroma with bitter tang. Well-rounded aroma. Deep brown amber clear with light tan lacing head. Heavy body with medium carbonation. Big sweet taste with roasted malt, raisin and a nutty sweet bitterness. Mild soy tang with thick raisin finish. Mild oak and vanilla. Little taste of alcohol. Sweet dry after. Nice ale. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Jul 28, 2007 Sampled this one on draught at the brewpub in Seattle, WA. Billed as an "Imperial Brown Ale" this beer is a brown ale on steroids, with big aromas, flavors, and body. This beer pours to a hazy, nut brown color, with a thick, light tan head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very malty, with lots of big sweet malty aromas, paired with nutty aromas, and aromas of brown sugar. The palate is rich and full on the tongue, with really good sweet malty and nutty flavor, with hints of toffee and brown sugar. This beer finishes with more sweet malty and nutty flavors up front, then ends with a cloying, sweet and nutty finish that lingers. A bit cloying, but very enjoyable. This beer is an ideal desert beer, and makes for an excellent after work beer to relax with, or a nice after dinner drink. JHunter (242), British Columbia, Canada Jul 28, 2007 Dark redish brown with strong coffee banana aroma/taste with a bit of a smokey palate. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jul 28, 2007 pours a dark brown with a thin fading off white head. Aroma is powerful coffee and dark fruit, molasses and some alc if you try hard enough. Flavour is bold smokey malt with a fruity hook. Finish is smooth. Very balanced and flavourful ale. Yummy. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jul 26, 2007 Draft at Pike Brewing on 7/12/07. This was a deep murky brown with a smallish tan head. Aromas of brown sugar, molasses, leather. Medium body, light carbonation, and very smooth without stickiness, going down a little too easily maybe. Burnt caramel and a dry peppery, but not overly bitter, finish mesh well with the other qualities. jclzony (25), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 24, 2007 This poured from a 650 ml bottle a rich ruby brown. It was topped with a lasting tan creamy head that left nice lacing as it gradually settled. It is slightly sweet up front with lots of caramel then joined by some darker malts and hints of alcohol. Flavor was malts, citrus hops, and a hint of coffee. Finish is good, and has just a touch of bitterness. This ale is smooth drinking, and quite enjoyable. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Jul 16, 2007 22 oz bottle from Capital market. Pours a dark orangish brown with a large beige head. Nose is chocolate malt and some floral hops. Taste is an interesting combination of sweet and sour. There is a bit of nuttiness, almost hazelnut-like, some sour apple and pear, and some earthy hops. Some subtle smoke in the dry finish as well as a litlle bit of burnt malts in the background...i think...whatever..it works and there is a LOT going on that plays well together..... no hint of 7.5% abv, i would have guessed around 5% as the alc does not raise its head at all. Body is light/medium, carbonation moderate/high. Very unique combination of flavors, and it actually works quite well!
