Pours a clear dark amber with a creamy off white head that leaves behind good sticky lacing. The aroma is a fruity malt with raisin and orange. Thin mouthfeel with a rich malt taste with cinnamon and clove. Alcohol present but not too overpowering. A good American stromg ale from Pike. ditmier (1059), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Jun 17, 2009 Deep amber/brown with a strong ruby hue to the liquor. Moderate head with good lasting time. Decent lace.
Smell: strong caramel with a dash of licorice. Light hop in the background.
First impression is that this is a far thinner beer than I expected with a low carbonation level. Reminds me of a homebrew. Mild flavor: some burnt malts and some crystal. Good hop finish, but I would not describe this as hoppy. Nothing "bad" but it just sorta fizzles--sorta like catching a fish below the minimum size: you get some fun, but you’re gonna throw it back anyway. Cirrhosis (618), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Beer pours a dark chocolate cloudy brown, good sized tan colored with excellent retention and curtains of sticky lacing where left behind with every sip, dam fine looking beer. Aroma was a touch mild for my liking but it was still very pleasant, sweet rich malts that seemed to be a little on the chalky side combined with just a touch of hops. I can’t get over this taste it is truly awesome tons of sweet rich dark malts with a hint of spice and earth, chocolate and coffee are being found in the finish but they are in the back ground of the flavor. The tasty malts dominate this brew so very good and tasty I want more. Why oh why does this only come in these small 650ml bottles I need more. This was so good highly recommend I will be picking a few more of theses up. Review done while watching Grizzly Man ( what a fawking tool, I like what he was trying to do and accomplish, but come on those things aren’t pets it was only a matter of time before you where killed) good movie. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2009 There’s lots to the aroma in this one: dry malts, more than a hint of burnt coffee, active mild spiced hops, licorice, brown sugar....rootbeer...no, more like an amaretto and coke. Does not come across overpowering to the nose. Poured a mediocre light brown cap that faded fairly quickly to a rim-clinger. Zero lacing. Beer is a hazy ruby with brown highlights. Mouthfeel comes across medium bodied and fairly smooth, but quite thick and coats the mouth, decent carbonation. I can feel the alcohol when I breathe out of my nose. Tastes pretty good with its abundance of sweet, rich malts, more burnt stuff, molassas and fruitiness. Too bad about the excess alcohol taste as this would be much better if it was masked. Pretty good beer! Really good at room temperature (yea, I’m a freak) and I’d bet this stuff would be wicked and abused if I could find it on tap. Finishes on the syrupy side with a sharp spicy end (early - when colder) that has good length with mild bitterness. Let’s fight! KnN (721), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2009 On tap at the Pike Brewery in Seattle. Pours a cola color with a thin off whit ehead. Aroma was dark fruit, some spice, a bit of clove, and some deep sweet malt character. Flavor was similar, but a bit watery and somewhat weak compared to what the aroma was promising.
