apshah99 (137), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 28, 2008 Mahogony pour with thin tan head. Nice caramel malt aroma, Very smooth nutty roasted malt taste with chocolate, mild bitterness on the finish. Thinnrt body than I expected. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Sep 27, 2008 65 cl bottle, Seattle, WA. Deep amber colour, translucent, pronounced malt and some spicy hop aroma. Smooth first sip, as someone else mentioned more of a brown ale than dubbel, but nonetheless pretty good. Strength of the alcohol doesn’t overpower, adds to the depth of the brew. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 23, 2008 22oz bomber. Deep choco-brown color. A little thin-bodied. I initially mistook this to be a Belgian Dubbel. Certainly shares some characteristics but really comes off to be me like a big Brown Ale. Deep malt and yeast flavors. Might demand a re-rate, but I’m not really feeling it. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle courtesy SoLan. Cloudy murky chocolate brown pour. Big caramel malt toffee aroma with hints of some hops. Thin watery malt body. Tatse was a bit of a letdown after the aroma. Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 20, 2008 Toffee, malt and a little bit of hops are present in the aroma. This beer pours brown with a red hue. Rich in nutty malt flavor but has a good balance leaving it smooth for the style. ebowman (11), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 10, 2008 Pours an opaque dark reddish-brown color with a generous head. Very hazy in appearance. Aroma is slightly sour, but predominantly toffee, caramel, and nuts with a hint of lemon. The flavor is surprisingly hoppy and finishes with a charred toffee/chocolate taste. This beer is ok, but is perhaps a little too hoppy for the style, and the charred taste needs to be toned down a bit. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 7, 2008 A clear brown ale with a thin white off white head. A caramel malt aroma with nice torrefied notes, vinous. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with nutty notes, sweet chocolate, oily mouthfeel, medium bodied. Tasted April 2007. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 4, 2008 Much sweeter than expected...malt dominates the flavor profile and I guess I would have wanted some bitter, resinous hops to balance it out. Not too upset that this isn’t regularly available in the area.
